AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH.
Enough of this. I actually think there was probably some way to work it that they didn't have to go if they didn't want to without it becoming a disciplinary matter, but since it got that far they should have stuck with it. Is this slice of knobcheese going to be able to refuse to put out a fire if it happens to start in a gay club?

but they werent working. Thats not their job. Why were they at the rally in the first place? As the fire service incase someone starts a fire!? or because they wanted to hand out leaflets? if its the former then they should have no money in their pocket. if its the latter then the services shouldnt have made a fuss about it. No? Why do you need firemen at a parade?

I don't see how handing out "GAY" leaflets is a part of firefighting, If he were to refuse to pull some gay person from a fire that would be cause for firing.

Gay leaflets? I think they were related to fire safety rather than guidelines on how to fist your lover without getting your wrist locked in to his anus or whatever other unimagineably depraved things one might find on a Gay Leaflet.

They were handing out fire safety leaflets, they do it at loads of comunnity events, it IS part of theur job, they know this when they sign up, they do do not get the option of saying no just because they don't like the event.

I can ask the firebrigade to come round to my house to do an safety check, this is some of the information you would get from these leaflets, if i asked for a gay only/ female only firefighter, they would and should rightfully tell me to fek off as they all do the same job to the same standard, or at least they should.

I would say handing out leaflets at parades is something you could opt in or opt out of if youre a fireman. its not a necessity, but i am happy that they made some of the fire fighters go to diversity classes what the hell is that!? ahahaha. But forcing that one someone wont make them feel like they should become more diverse. ironic kinda.

I guess this depends on whether handing out leaflets is in their job description or not. But I also think this is where we, Brits, have shot ourselves in the foot horribly - it's no longer allowed to use any level of common sense because there's always some cnut who'll complain that someone else is getting/getting out of something they're not. We had a fireman who came to school when I was about 9 to talk about how to deal with a fire at home, which is a great thing and I still remember what to do and not do, but if I was a fire fighter and asked to go in to talk to young kids I would move hell and high water to get out of it. Chances are there'd be someone else who actually liked doing it. I find it hard to imagine that these three guys couldn't have just switched shifts with someone who didn't mind going.

Teaching fire safety is part of a fireman's job.
To argue that you find the event offensive should be no excuse.
Can a fireman refuse to give fire safety advice to people with political views they don't like?
Thw West of Scotland does have a number of very bloody minded people, very certain of their views.

the world has some bloody minded fools. Tarrant i agree with you but for this to have been blown up into such a big deal the ifre service could have dealth with it alot better such as the idea VHW provided. A bit of common sense could have eased the whole situation.

I've just realised that I would honestly prefer risking my life to put out a fire to having to talk to children. I think I need psychiatric help.

Sadly, the bloody minded are on both sides of the secterian divide.
Fortunately, it is a minority on both sides.

Sending people for diversity training sounds a bit sinister. Just how do they go about teaching a homophobe to love his fellow man? I wonder if electrodes are involved. Will Obama close down the Diversity Training And Social Re-education camps?
I'm also beginning to wonder if a major point of a gay pride march is to draw fire from and expose homophobes for remedial action.
So fireman would have to extinguish a burning gay by order of the law. The rest of us can still just toast marshmallows on one.
