White working class are victims of discrimination, but not because of their race, says report Unheard and ignored, the white working class are the victims of discrimination, but not because of their race. Britons are still blighted by the class system, according to a study that reveals working class people are at a instant disadvantage because of the way they speak, the way they dress and even what they eat. The study comes in response to Hazel Blears's call for the voices of white working class people to be heard and found that discrimination against them had nothing to do with ethnicity. The report, Who Cares about the White Working Class?, was carried out by the Runnymede Trust. It disputes the claim that the much-maligned social group are losing out in favour of ethnic minorities and immigrants. Instead, the report concludes that the class system still influences levels of success in life. 'The white working classes are discriminated against on a range of different fronts, including their accent, their style, the food they eat, the clothes they wear, the social spaces they frequent, the postcode of their homes, possibly even their names,' it said. 'But they are not discriminated against because they are white.' <snip> www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1126505/White-working-class-victims-discrimination-race-says-report.htmltrue? I dunno. Is it actually discrimination if you hire Jolanta the Pole because she speaks better English than Traycee?
I'm also not entirely convinced that people feeling and believing that they are discriminated against means that they actually are discriminated against. May well be true, but some facts would be useful in determining this.

I've got a Northern accent, eat fish 'n chips, wear overalls to work, drink in a 'local' pub and my name is Kevin !
Where do I claim my compo ?

You just know this is going to lead to straight white middle class men complaining that they're discriminated against because they're the only group who nobody has acknowledged are discriminated against.

It seems to be a modern phenomenon for people to feel discriminated against for any weak excuse.

There are a lot of white working class but not actually working dross against whom I would gladly discriminate. This is not based on race, creed or colour because there are a lot of black ones as well. Pick any religion you like.
But I reckon that there is a points system for victim status and white people score less on it than black ones because all whites secretly harbour the instinct to oppress the nearest black person. Throw in a different sexual orientation and the score goes up.
Wonder who created a social situation that makes it advantageous to score high in the victim index. Can't see it being the ubiquitous right wing fascist b*astard. Must be a lefty thing.

White working class is, also, a spectacularly bad descirption.
They're usually pink. They almost never work, even when they have a job. They generally have no class at all.

What Andy said. I'm sure the white working class as a whole are not discriminated against. Not being too keen on the mouthy, whiney workshy isn't discrimination, it's personal choice.

Hmm. The tendency to assume that the white working class are all workshy suggests they might have a point. Please stop it, as I would much prefer to think they're just whining about all the bloody immigrants APU.

I've been discriminated against for years, not because of race or class, but because I am offensively ugly

I don't for one moment think that the white working class are all workshy, I'm sure they aren't. In fact I know they aren't, but the ones that are, along with all the other colours of workshy, are the ones I'm talking about.

It's just that already there's three comments about their non working status on this thread, if we were talking about "black people" feeling discriminated and we all started on about how they don't work it'd sound reet dodgy.

Are we nearly full circle now on this ' Oh we are the real victims' bollox, if so it renders discrimmination pointless since it affects all in society, therefore is now just a normal way of life.

God, it's PC gone mad! Utterly mad. If I can't call working class people lazy what on earth can I say? I mean, it's not like I'm doing anything other than telling the truth.
