Nah it wasn't missed captain,
There was a thread here somewhere, could've been in the old MSN board?
It was the 1st awarded, since Vietnam, by the Australian Govt.
The soldier has already given the medal to the Australian War Memorial in Canberra so that the public can 'enjoy' it. It's on display with 58-63? other VC medals that have been awarded to Australians, mainly by British forces since the Boer War. We were down there a few years back it's a great display that shows all the recipients and the 'acts' they performed to receive them. 3 British VC's are also on display. They were also awarded from Gallipoli and the Somme, their owners have long since passed and apparently no living relatives have come forward to claim them.
What i have been looking for in recent days is when and how The Australian Govt was given the right by Britain to award this medal on Australia's behalf??? Still looking!

Am I right in thinking that these medals are made from the captured enemy cannons from the Crimean War?
That's what we were taught in school.
Anyone know? Google has been less than helpful, i think Poor old Google Australia is suffering from our Summer heat. I've been getting lots of "Can't find this page or Error 404 or something.... with a lot odf searches in the past few days.
