www.upi.com/Top_News/2009/01/23/Freed_Gitmo_prisoner_returns_to_al-Qaida/UPI-82031232729226/ SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- A militant released from the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, military prison a year ago has emerged as a leader of al-Qaida's Yemeni branch, U.S. military leaders said.
Said Ali al-Shihri's position in al-Qaida's hierarchy points up potential complications in accomplishing President Barack Obama's executive order that shutters the detention facility within a year, officials told The New York Times. Shihri was released to Saudi Arabia in 2007, reportedly going through a Saudi rehabilitation program for former jihadists before resurfacing with al-Qaida in Yemen.
"The lesson here is, whoever receives former Guantanamo detainees needs to keep a close eye on them," an official told the Times. The report comes as Republican members of Congress criticized the plan to close the Guantanamo Bay detention camp without measures for dealing with current detainees. Obama also signed an executive order Thursday that calls for an interagency task force that would, among other things, consider how to handle detainees as the camp's closing progresses.
A Yemeni journalist who interviewed al-Qaida's leaders in Yemen in 2008 confirmed Thursday that the deputy leader was Shihri, the former Guantanamo detainee. The journalist told the Times Shihri had described to him his journey from Cuba to Yemen and supplied his Guantanamo detention number, which Pentagon documents said was correct. © 2009 United Press International, Inc. No. It means that ONE has become a terrorist.
It doesn't justify the destruction of Afghanistan and Iraq. It doesn't justify Guantanimo. It doesn't justify torture or imprisonment without trial.

No. It means that ONE has become a terrorist. Actually, in the history of Gitmo, it's 64 of them and counting that RESUMED being terrorists, they were terrorists when they were caught, terrorists when they were released. They're deranged, there's no cure for it, for the safety of humanity, they should be put out of their misery like the rabid dogs they are.

64??? Really??? Out of how many? "The Defense Department has said as many as 61 former Guantanamo detainees -- about 11 percent of 520 detainees transferred from the detention center and released -- are believed to have returned to the fight." Plus the 3 new ones for a total of 64, that's 64 known, probably far more, and then the rest, that are still murderous assholes regardless. The whole article from today. Two ex-Guantanamo inmates appear in Al-Qaeda video51 minutes ago WASHINGTON (AFP) — Two men released from the US "war on terror" prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba have appeared in a video posted on a jihadist website, the SITE monitoring service reported. One of the two former inmates, a Saudi man identified as Abu Sufyan al-Azdi al-Shahri, or prisoner number 372, has been elevated to the senior ranks of Al-Qaeda in Yemen, a US counter-terrorism official told AFP. Three other men appear in the video, including Abu al-Hareth Muhammad al-Oufi, identified as an Al-Qaeda field commander. SITE later said he was prisoner No. 333. A Pentagon spokesman, Commander Jeffrey Gordon, on Saturday declined to confirm the SITE information. "We remain concerned about ex-Guantanamo detainees who have re-affiliated with terrorist organizations after their departure," said Gordon. "We will continue to work with the international community to mitigate the threat they pose," he said. On the video, al-Shihri is seen sitting with three other men before a flag of the Islamic State of Iraq, the front for Al-Qaeda in Iraq. "By Allah, imprisonment only increased our persistence in our principles for which we went out, did jihad for, and were imprisoned for," al-Shihri was quoted as saying. Al-Shiri was transferred from Guantanamo to Saudi Arabia in 2007, the US counter-terrorism official said. The other men in the video are identified as Commander Abu Baseer al-Wahayshi and Abu Hureira Qasm al-Rimi (also known as Abu Hureira al-Sana'ani). The Defense Department has said as many as 61 former Guantanamo detainees -- about 11 percent of 520 detainees transferred from the detention center and released -- are believed to have returned to the fight. The latest case highlights the risk the new US administration faces as it moves to empty Guantanamo of its remaining 245 prisoners and close the controversial detention camp within a year. www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hZfIcWnHqBz4kQR90lC_pXaHeW4Q

I would top the lot of them, fuk the trials, if they were innocent they would not have been there and any innocents would have been sussed out and released within weeks so all remaining must be guilty and should be dispatched swiftly.

Thats another thing,, I regard the PC and lefties as dangerous an enemy as the terrorists themselves and would dispatch them with the same swiftness as I would a terrorist as the PC brigade are the modern equivalent of the old Viechy French, home bred traitors worth hanging.

So the UK would have to accept a percentage of the current detainees at Guantanamo as we are allies with the US according to Barack Obama's wish to close Guantanamo! (According to the new President, alll America's allies should take some detainees from the prison, he doesn't believe America should take them all.) Let's hope we don't put them up in a cushty prison with all protection and comfort! Outrageous! This is a situation where i fully support the death penalty in the UK!

You said it Libs, maybe we could get some use out of them by testing the effects of space travel on them instead of using endangered monkeys. At least they could contribute to future of science exploration. And as we test the speed of light on them Im sure as the G force kicked in as we would probably utter the word JEEEEZIS!! they would say Allah hu akbar, but about 500 times
