Britons 'bored but happy' - study The report accuses the government of not focusing on Britons' well-being Britons are more bored, tired and less likely to know their neighbours than other Europeans, a study suggests. But think tank, the New Economics Foundation (NeF), found the UK to be the sixth happiest nation in Europe. Data from more than 40,000 interviews from the 2006/07 European Social Survey was used to draw up the table. The government said it was trying to encourage people to engage with their local communities, giving them more influence on decisions affecting them. Denmark topped the research measuring overall well-being, with the UK ranked 13th out of 22 countries - just below Germany and two places above France. The Nef study placed Switzerland, Norway, Ireland, Austria and Sweden after Denmark with the highest levels of overall well-being. Countries such as the Ukraine, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Hungary were said to have the lowest news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7848244.stmI love these studies, though I've never met anyone who's ever taken part.

It makes you wonder where they get these ridiculous statistics from doesn't it voice. A load of paper pushers sat behind desks dreaming up the next crazy issue to hypothesise over! I wonder how long it took them to figure this out?!

I'm not sure about the bored and happy angle but it strikes me that the bored brigade want to get a life.
IMHO I think we are not so socially active in a neighbourhood sense. I think car ownership has affected village, town and suburban life in that not so many of us queue at a bus stop or train station for instance. High garden fences - a thing unheard of when I was young - divorces us from our next door neighbours. small shops are dying, the high streets are dying, places where we met others.
I could go on but you get the drift.

I don't think "Bored and Happy" sit well together. Anytime I see a youth who claims to be "Bored" is usually a miserable youth, who is moping about being a pain in the ass.
