As Sushi said you get to know how much to cook for a meal and have some fillups available if anyone wants more. Fruit, cake/s in the cake tin and yoghurt in the fridge. The only food related items that get thrown away in my house are peelings and they go on the compost heap. I compost mine too Puffin, although I'm considering having free range chickens soon. Chickens that roam over my garden, scratching, pecking, eating nasties, and fertilising at the same time.

They would have to be kept in a pen though Scooby, and not run free because of the dogs. Not quite the same thing. I think the dogs would frighten them, so it's not unfortunately an option, a shame as i would love to have free birds in the garden.

Small portable runs are available, big enough for two chickens and easily moved around the garden. No they don't have a complete freedom of the garden, but two chickens, given free rein will decimate a small garden

We get policed for wasting food scraps, who polices the Government for wasting £1.000,000's on crackpot schemes? totally agree - what an absurd waste of money to save a few scaps is this?

With all the TV chefs doing the rounds you would have thought everybody knew all about food

imagine if everyone was as clever as you lot are but they aren't as is evident in the excess and abuse of the good things in life...maybe some people do need to be shown how to do things right....good gracious - don't blame your government, they are just following the private coaching courses and all the other workshops showing people how to live...for me, freedom is not the ability to overdo everything, freedom comes with responsibility to self and there are those that need to learn the tools of the trade depending on my mood, i would either invite them in or tell them to piss off

Perhaps if there were less people around saying people needed to be shown how to to do things " right" there would be less people in need of being shown . So some people waste food .Yes .And ???Let them bloody waste it then .Why on earth should taxes pay for them to be shown that they might be better off if they didn't ? I don't blame the government-I blame anyone who thinks schemes like this are a wonderful idea or, worse, those who think it's a bad idea but decide they'll be polite to whoever knocks at their door trying to implement it .

Well said feral! There is no way i would let anyone in to discuss what my family eat! They would be told very politely to take a hike!

My point is more that they shouldnt be told particularly politely. Why should they be told politely if they are disturbing you ? Merely because they are doing a job ? I'm not polite to cold callers .I've found if you are you get more of them .Slamming the phone down on them seems far more effective in stopping them ringing a second time .Or is the consensus that we should support people who are doing crap jobs ? In which case maybe I should go out and chuck some litter on the ground so that road sweepers have a bit more to do

I get your point feral - i'm just not naturally rude to people. Having said that i did slam the door the other day on some "Armageddon" callers, who for the third time in a week were trying to tell me about the end of the World! And no, i haven't seen them since lol! Your method works!

I get your point feral - i'm just not naturally rude to people. Believe it or not ,neither am I lol .Sometimes its necessary however : to return rudeness with rudeness because it's the only language that seems to get through, unfortunately .And let's face it -is IS bloody rude to disturb people unasked and unwanted .It also has the advantage of putting them off disturbing you a second time cos you get marked down as a miserable, rude sod lol and to be avoided

Yes indeed. Most cold callers half expect to get the door slammed in their faces, you can tell by their monotone banter at the door!
