You have to highlight the but you want made into a link and then click on the 'Web' icon in the mess of buttons at the top of reply box. As said, you only get these with the fully 'reply' option, not with 'quick reply.'
Dunno if you can overtype links without losing the web address, but that's a minor quibble. The site seems to shorten URLs anyewya, so the days of stretched threads are gone.
