Saving photos to floppies ..........click on " send to" and they send the photo to floppy disc drive.

Saving photos to disc .........click on " send to " and it should send the photos to DVD-RW DRIVE (E:). Notice pops up saying "to see these files click balloon." Clicked the ballon which then says " write these files to CD " On clicking this a wizard appears saying there is no disc in the drive . There is , any idea what Im doing wrong?

Tried that . Ive got 2 disc drive things and have tried putting a disc in both at the same time to be sure. Nowt , the wizard is insisting theres no disc in .
Unless Im missing something here it looks like its not conecting up for some reason , although it does load up stuff from disc ok.

This may seem a bit obvious but are there different types of discs you can put in ? or should it just write it to any disc like it would a floppy disc ?

The disk is one of the older WORM varieties.
The disk is corrupt (use Scandisk or similar utility to check).
The disk is full (ditto would work here too).
Drive and/or drive controller could be playing silly b*gg*rs (try a reboot or restart) and see if that clears it.

Failing that lot, take your e-photos to Boots the Chemist!

Some CD's of mine don't do the automatic thing when they're supposed to ,so I open em from explorer or my computer

mmmm , they were cheap . high speed CD-R 80 700MB compatatible with the latest CD-R / CD-RW drives ( although god knows when they were produced. )
I think I can rule the other 3 out . Is this or at least should this disc be OK for savin photo's on.

No havnt tried to open manualy ,( I shouldnt have to should I ? )as this proceedure should work shouldnt it . ?

It will only write to an unused RW-CDROM, and you need a burn programme like Nero.

It should work but doesn't always .just go to " my computer" and click on the CD writer drive and see if it says there's a disc in .If it does you can carry on from there .If it doesn't ...try a reboot .But take the disc out first .

ah right , Ive got Nero just havnt figured out how to use it yet .

If it says they're compatible then they should be. Have you tried all the disks in the pack, i.e. is this just a rogue disk?

What is saved to the medium (any medium) is more or less irrelevant, so long as the target device has the capacity to store it. It's just a long chain of 0's and 1's when all is said and done.

One question: what OS and which version of it are you running? Please don't say Windows ME or I'll have to come and burn your house down!

How do I save my data to a blank disc in Windows XP?

There is an abundance of help available in Windows XP. To find information specific to CD Recording do this:

1. Click Start
2. Click Help and Support
3. In the search box near the top type in the words CD Recording 4. Click the Search button
5. On the left hand list, locate the selection Copying Files And Folders To A CD and click it once to open it.
6. Follow the instructions for copying files to a disc.

I just had a look it says it's exactly the same method as copying to floppy :


Copying Photos to a CD

Making your own photo CD is a good way to send a lot of pictures to grandma or just to archive your collection. With Windows XP and a CD-R drive, it couldn't be easier. Open My Pictures, highlight a photo, and then click Copy to CD. Or don't highlight any files, and choose Copy all items to CD. Then, if you want, you can delete the pictures you've copied because you have a permanent version stored on the CD.

If that doesn't work I found this :

Translation:
The CD drive (represented by X) is reporting to the OS that there is no disc in the drive.

Solution:
Microsoft’s CD Writing Wizard will scan your drive before the burn process begins to ensure there is enough free space on the disc to accommodate all of the files you want to copy. If during that scan the drive reports that there is no disc in the drive, you’ll get this error. Obviously, if there is no disc in the drive, simply insert one to resolve the problem. If, however, you’re getting this error when there is a disc inserted, there may be a problem with your media or the drive itself. Reboot your system and try another blank CD (or a different brand of blank CD). Also try a different application to burn the disk, as the utility built-in to Windows isn’t the most powerful tool available. If, no matter what you try, the drive continually reports that there is no disc available, it may have to be replaced.

Just thought of summink though .A long shot perhaps .My comp used to kick up the same message when I had a CD in..specially on new ones .I thought me drive was fecked but a mate of mine said to clean the CD's ,cos new ones often have a sort of film on em .used that window cleaner spray stuff ,dried em thoroughly after ..and lo and behold the buggers worked .

I failed couples times with CD-R. The problem with them is if you do one more non-right move (just click wrong button acciently) it may follow you to "close writing session" at that disk After that procedure dick is not available for writing. My advance for you let use only CD-RW and dont look for trouble at your head
More over Cd-R disks are less long-lived than Cd-RW.

Yep, the clue's in the "W" bit of CD-RW (CD Re-Writeable disk).

Older CD-Rs you could only write to the once.

Right lets get this clear . Do I need a CD-RW disc to get this photo onto it ? as the CD-R disc isnt working . Older CD-Rs you could only write to the once I cant even write to this bugger once never mind again .

The first test to prove the drive, is to insert a pre-recorded cd. Anything will do, a windows disk, audio cd, whatever... See if that disk is recognised. If nothing pops up then go into 'my computer' and double-click the drive icon.

If you get an error then forget pissing around with recordable media. The drive aint working.

OK , new developements ............ brand new disc into E Drive.........open the drive from my computer and the disk starts clicking as if its being recorded . This is before I click on the send these files to disc . When I do click on send these files to disc a new message comes up from a wizard .........put WRITABLE CD into E-Drive. .........I presume its already written the files ?

Whoa, ok back up a min...

The drive letters can be pretty much anything but a normal configuration is C: is the hard drive, D: is the DVD-ROM and E: is the CD writer (or in Yord's case, a DVD-RW, flash git)

However, if you have more than one partition on the hard-drive then the optical drive letters get shunted along so the DVD-ROM will be E: or F:... Whatever, that's not important.

Yord, usually the writer is the lower drive, not the upper. That's just how manufacturer's tend to build 'em.

Take a look at the drives. One should say 'DVD-ROM' and the other 'DVD-RW, CD-R, CD-RW....'. Basically, the drive which is is the writer, will have a lot of letters on it.

No, it hasn't. You get that prompt 'cos it's asking for a disk to write the files to.

Once you get it working properly ...

... you will be able to "use" the CD-Rs more than once in the sense that you can add new photos to one that you've used before. What you won't be able to do is delete all the files off of a full CD-R and fill it up again with some new ones.

I would doubt it too, Yord. But you actually have a DVD writer, not a CD writer, and some early ones weren't too good with cd media.

I'd go back to where you bought it from and ask their advice.

just feckin wait a minute ....when I put a music cd in theres two sides , a silver side and the other side with a label clagged on it .The silver side goes face down so you can see the label.
