news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7858104.stmAnother cold snap is heading for the UK, as forecasters warn of the chilliest winter for 13 years. Icy winds from the continent will be felt in the south and east of the UK in the next few days, followed by a "blast of bitterly cold air" from Russia.

Apparently this is all due to some stratospheric warming which drives the jetstream further south and means the prevailing winds don't come as strongly from temperate Atlantic gulfstream, and allows cold air to come from Russkyland.

The sky is looking really grey! I think we're in for a chilly night! More frost on the car, taking ages to defrost at 6am for work! Brrrrrrrr!

Freezing winters are good for we animals too.
A good cold snap lasting a few days minimises the flea- and tick count the following summer.

Also good for the soil.
the ice breaks up the surface allowing air to circulate and encourages all the bugs and stuff so plants can grow.
I love the weather cycles in this part of the world

The only good thing about the cold weather in the UK is that the first daffodils are poking through the soil. I love it when they flower, and the snowdrops and crocuses. Beautiful!

We have the first spring lambs. Poor little mites have chosen a chilly weekend for their first few days. Not that they had a lot of choice in the matter.

As if being born isn't shock enough for the little lambs, they have to contend with a harsh Winter too! Phewee!
