"Storm looms over N Korea balloons" A new thread for this would be superfluoue. Here is additional link. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7719755.stmAn excellent way of letting an 'imprisoned' people know that there is a whole world outside. Access to the internet is illegal and the sale of videos and DVD's is banned.Penalties for the simplest 'crimes' are exceedingly harsh. This makes one think and appreciate the freedom we enjoy. The democracy system is not perfect but better than all the others. As we have enjoyed relative peace for sixty years, it is easy to forget the blood shed to give us that freedom.

Kim Jong Il's fists are clenched.
Now we know Joe Biden was wrong - it didn't take six months for a foreign belligerent power to test President Obama. He didn't even have to wait 10 days.

The black market in DVDs etc is said to be enormous. An expected reaction for people starved of information. The closed minds of the leaders of this country defy logic.

I'm not too worried about this. North Korea is in melt down. It's people starving and it military equipment would only last a day or so in a war. It may have a few nuclear war heads but no long range launch system.

This racist anti-sinoism has to stop.
Doesn't anyone remember how many of these people were murderd in some war or other?
Criticising N Korea is the same as wanting a return to the killing fields.
Dam it!

Kim Jong is like a spoiled brat that does something like this every few months to gain attention.

Agreed.
The guy's a lost cause. He got his place from Daddy who overshadowed him. He has to sound tough to avoid a complete breakdown in the society.

N Korea must be particularly short on food again. Another ploy to extort aid from a naive west.

N Korea must be particularly short on food again. Another ploy to extort aid from a naive west. Indeed. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice _________. Kim Jong Il has obviously fooled the West more than twice. But I feel though there is a time (and it has probably already passed) when Kim plays his old trick once too often, everyone can see this tantrum-throwing is just his usual way of getting attention, that he really doesn't have many cards to play with, and the West should ignore him. You just can't keep bluffing at a game of poker and expect people to continue falling for it.
