XANADU THE BALLAD OF KUBLA KHAN Poem by SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE
In Xanadu did Kubla Khan a stately pleasure-dome decree, where Alph, the sacred river, ran through caverns measureless to man down to a sunless sea, so twice five miles of fertile ground with walls and towers were girdled round. and there were gardens bright with sinuous rills, where blossom'd many an incense-bearing tree. And here were forests as ancient as the hills, enfolding sunny spots of greenery.
But O! That deep romantic chasm which slanted, down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover. A savage place! As holy and enchanted as e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted by woman wailing for her demon lover. And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething, as if this Earth in fast thick pants were breathing, a mighty fountain momently was forced, amid whose swift half-intermitted burst, huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail, or chaffy grain beneath the thresher's flail, and 'mid these dancing rocks at once and ever, it flung up momently the sacred river. Five miles meandering with a mazy motion, through wood and dale the sacred river ran. Then reach'd the caverns measureless to man, and sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean. And 'mid this tumult Kubla heard from afar ancestral voices prophesying war!
The shadow of the dome of pleasure floated midway on the waves Where was heard the mingled measure from the fountain and the caves. It was a miracle of rare device a sunny pleasure dome with caves of ice. A damsel with a dulcimer in a vision once I saw. It was an Abyssinian maid, and on her dulcimer she played, singing of mount Abora. Could I revive within me her symphony and song. To such a deep delight 'twould win me, that with music loud and long, I would build that dome in air! That sunny dome! Those caves of ice! and all who heard should see them there! and all should cry, Beware! Beware! his flashing eyes! his floating hair! Weave a circle round him thrice, and close your eyes with holy dread! for he on honey-dew hath fed, and drunk the milk of Paradise.

They say that slavery has been abolished, yet we constantly read how huge fees are paid for sportspeoples contracts. Surely paying for a person service is akin to slavery (albeit very well paid in some cases!).

For all those who have lost a beloved pet -
Rainbow Bridge Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends, so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour, those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying her faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again the happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

Read at funeral in Four Weddings and a Funeral Written by W. H. Auden
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone, Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone, Silence the pianos and with muffled drum Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead, Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves, Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.
He was my North, my South, my East and West, My working week and my Sunday rest, My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song; I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.
The stars are not wanted now: put out every one; Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun; Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood. For nothing now can ever come to any good.
