Lol! Lots of people have seen the ghost so it may be real and not a figment of the imagination. Alternatively, somebody may be using some kind of technology to pull an elaborate prank.

There is no recorded instance of a ghost or apparition ever harming anyone. Hammer films shouls not be confused with reality and Buffy was fiction. I would not mind 'frightening' Sarah Michelle Gellar, though.

I don't really believe in ghosts but I believe that there are a lot of things around about which I know nothing. I've seen some spooky stuff. Might have been ghosts. Might have been some obscure branches of physics that haven't been properly researched yet. I did read some article about strange voices in a castle being down to a high metallic content in the stone acting like the ferrous on magnetic tape. Some conditions could record and some could play. Maybe it works with video as well and nature can do holographs. Or maybe science hasn't got all the senses sorted out yet and there's one that picks stuff up without using ears or eyeballs.
My advice would be to ignore it. If it's not hurting anybody it's not as big a problem as the drunken idiots that cause trouble in the A&E so deal with them first.

"One theory is the figure could be the ghost of a Roman soldier killed on the spot where the original hospital was built in the 1920s."
I would leave well alone, if he is the ghost of the Roman soldier, he seems harmless just wandering around. If he were an evil spirit (if you believe in that sort of thing), i am sure he would have made his presence known by now. A lot of fuss about nothing really. The sites of old buildings often have spirits, some we seem to be able to detect, others we are unaware of.

"as he screws you to the bed" - - - - - Yord.
Oops! I first read that as "screws you on the bed." Slight difference.

In the past I have worked in many Military Hospitals that had a plethora of benign spirits and never heard of any adverse effects on those who 'spotted' them.

That's because anyone who spotted them was dragged into the Pit Of Doom and had their soul sucked out.

I used to own a 300+ year old cottage that terrified quite a few that came to stay. The guest bedroom definitely had something going on, and many that slept there said they felt something or somebody was in there with them.
So, one night I slept in there myself, and yes, there was a sound of someone breathing deeply, and it did feel as though you weren't alone, but not scarily. I never felt threatened, in fact, quite the opposite. No one ever got hurt, or saw anything, and it never bothered me one bit.

Sounds as if we've lived in the same house Sushi! We used to live in an old house and the nicest room petrified my daughter when she was about four years old. Then, when my sister came to stay she was convinced there was someone else sleeping in the room as she too heard the sound of heavy breathing. Over the years I've heard many strange things. Including a strange rumbling noise which was accompanied by the sound of horses galloping past our house late at night. When I spoke to some locals they said it sounded like the old mail coach which took that route on its way between Exeter and Exmouth. I could tell you of many other 'happenings' .... for instance when we were all in the garden (of another house, this time in Wales) and we heard the voice of an old woman warning .... "Mind your fingers" .... when our two year old son started messing about with some rocks which were dumped precariously in a wheelbarrow. Needless to say, there was no old woman anywhere near the place. At the same house we often saw a little black dog .. one minute he'd be there but in the blink of an eye he'd be gone. This happened so regularly we even gave him a name! Then again, in the same house, a woman's voice used to call my sons name and he used to try to find her, but no-one else was around. I'd never go upstairs if I was alone in that house .... the rooms really freaked me out. But ... although I've experienced ghostly feelings and sounds, nothing has ever hurt any of us even if the sensations did make us feel decidedly uncomfortable.

I work in a nursing home which used to be two Victorian houses. Although extensive renovations have taken place over the years, hundreds of elderly people have died there over many years. During the daylight hours there is nothing untoward, but when darkness falls it's a different matter. I keep an open mind regarding ghosts and spirits, but there is definitely a feeling that there are spirits around the house during the evening and night. It's not unpleasant, just a feeling of not being alone walking up the stairs for example. Also a feeling of "someone" walking along landings and down back staircases. I don't feel scared and nor do any of the other nursing staff, it just makes you feel a bit "odd". I always check behind me just in case . . . . .
