Hahahaha! Daily Mail says something causes cancer. Coffee earlier this week, soup today. All liquids will be out of bounds before the year's out, by which time we'll discover that all liquids can prevent cancer, too.

Yes, salt is very bad.
Been used in cooking and preserving for tens of thousands of years with little problem.
But now it's really bad.

Make your own soup and then you know how much salt is in it. It's not difficult.

all diuretic drugs cause a person to lose water

You should only need a diuretic if your kidneys aren't working efficiently. We need salt, we just don't need too much of it. Processed foods often contain a lot more than is necessary.

Love home made soup.
Best is when you make a really big pot, have some for tea then add more stuff and have it again next day.

Chinese food is also very salty, but what the heck it's only a treat now and then! If you don't add salt to your cooking at home, a little bit in other foods is fairly harmless! I think we tend to get over paranoid about things these days, additives are far more harmful. The side-effects of these won't be fully known for years yet.

Worried about a bit of salt in soup?
What about salt in all the other processed food, Food from MacDonalds etc?
Bet most buy more convienence food that tinned soup.
What did this report base its findings on, people who live on soup?
I doubt if this report stands close examination.

I seem to recall the health nuts ranting on about the benificial effects of Soy Sauce. heartdiseasediabetes.suite101.com/article.cfm/soy_sauce_is_heart_healthy

Also carries it's warnings though! "Like everything else, dark soya sauce should be consumed in moderation. Researchers warned that, due to the high sodium level, consuming large amounts could contribute to high blood pressure."

Isn't it the amount of sodium contained within the salt that is harmful ? you can buy reduced sodium salt. Just wonder how you can write a report on salt in soups without writing an inclusive report on all canned foods containing salt. More boffins wasting money and keeping themselves in work.

My wife buys that low sodium salt, it's called LoSalt.
Very good it is too.
Salt without guilt.
Great of traditional chips, fried in beef dripping. (Which is also apparently really bad for us all after being a staple of the European diet for hundreds of years).
