Despite Churchill's many merits, it's time the old fascist, the Butcher of Dresden, was kicked out of the White House. Shortly before Mr Obama’s inauguration, the Jacob Epstein bronze(of Churchill) is understood to have been removed and placed in storage by White House curators. Recent photographs show that a bust of Abraham Lincoln, one of the new President’s heroes, has been moved to take the position once occupied by Churchill. ... Mr Obama shows little evidence of the Anglophilia that led his predecessors to pepper speeches with quotations from Churchill. Instead, there have been suggestions that he has reason to disdain the former Prime Minister. In 1952 Churchill declared the Kenya emergency in the homeland of Mr Obama’s father, sending in troops to crush the Mau Mau rebellion against colonial rule. Among the Kenyans who were detained without trial and allegedly tortured by the British was Hussein Onyango Obama, the President’s grandfather. tinyurl.com/djhsbc

Perhaps he just wants a bust of someone he admires to stand on the plinth?
These 'commentators' have a habit of reading things into simple actions that aren't there at all.

Churchill may have been a man of his time but his attitudes are hardly of relevance today.
As for suppose Anglophile tendencies and the much vaunted, (by the British), Special Relationship, this is more a British thing than American.
Britain is an important ally because it tends to tow the US line when the rest of Europe doesn't. The British ruling class does this to suck up to the Americans and maintain what it believes to be the special relationship.
It suits the Americans for obvious reasons.
The reality is Britain is no more special to the US than any other country and less than several.

What Puff said. It is an extreme stretch of the imagination to think Obama won't be an Anglophile (as an aside should he be?) because of his family's experiences in Kenya.
More likely that there is only one spot and he replaced Churchill with someone he admires more.

he replaced Churchill with someone he admires more. Maybe he doesn't admire Churchill at all.

While Churchill is revered in England (and indeed should be) in Australia he is held responsible of the disasters of Gallipoli in World War One and Singapore in World War Two.

I shouldn't think that a bust of Winston Churchill is a terribly pretty thing to have as an ornament. I certainly wouldn't have one around. Not that a Lincoln bust would be any better. Can't he get a lava lamp or something?

Surely, Karl Marx would be more appropriate?
