Newyorker gone? Aw, what's with him lately? He got all hysterical at some of my gentle teasing a bit ago. Now he's spat the dummy, picked up his marbles and flounced off in a huff.
Bring him back, he was funny.

A House of Lords screening of a film linking Islam to violent extremism was blocked after pressure from Muslim groups, according to reports. The screening, planned for last Thursday, was cancelled after a meeting between Lord Nazir Ahmed, senior House of Lords figures and Muslim leaders, according to a Pakistani news agency. The Associated Press of Pakistan quotes Lord Ahmed terming the cancellation “a victory for the Muslim community”. The decision to cancel the Lords showing was reportedly reached after Lord Ahmed met with the Government Chief Whip in the House of Lords and Leader of the House of Lords. Representatives from the Muslim Council of Britain, British Muslim Forum and others from the British Muslim community were also present at the meeting. The film, Fitna, was made by Dutch MP Geert Wilders. It juxtaposes quotations from the Koran with footage of terrorist atrocities and speeches by Muslim preachers. Mr Wilders is facing prosecution in the Netherlands after he compared the Koran with Mein Kampf and said there is a direct link between Islam and violence. The European Parliament also refused to allow a screening of Fitna on its premises last December, according to reports. One Dutch MEP, Maria Martens, welcomed the decision. “The film has nothing to do with freedom of expression. This freedom does not give the right to offend,” she said. Reacting to the Lords’ decision, Mr Wilders said: “This is very sad. It is yet more evidence that Europe is losing its freedom and bowing to Islamic pressure and protest.” According to commentator Melanie Phillips, Mr Wilders has now been given a second invitation to screen his film in the House of Lords later this month. www.christian.org.uk/news/20090203/lords-caved-in-to-muslims-over-film/next month then!

So if they get this banned are they going to demand that no movies ever again suggest that muslims might be terrorists? Or will a simple disclaimer suffice?
No animals were mistreated during the making of this motion picture, Islam is a religion of peace apart from a few extremists and the characters depicted herein bear no relation to any person living or dead or suicided with a nail-bomb.

A good day for screening the film would be February 25 when Lord Ahmed is sentenced for his dangerous driving offence.

NYorker is not in the memberlist anymore. Shame. I seldomly agree with him, but he had a certain wit. Maybe we should start a thread saying his a p*ssy, chickening out as he did. I'm sure he'll be lurking around every now and then.

Maybe it was the Muslim matrimonial add at the top of the page that drove him out?

Something's gone off. He sounded a bit raped when I suggested that he might be gay. I was a bit suprised at how dramatic he got about it. Is he trying to kick a cocaine habit or something? I hear that drugs can mess people up so maybe that's it.
If you're reading this, Newyorker, rejoin and post something. I promise not to call you gay again.

This is really getting silly now. If Sweet Soul had used that motto under the name of Cobblers (for example) then there may be a slight cause for picking it up. However, we all know the context in which that is written, without any malice etc, and purely in fun. Time to leave it be I think. You what?

The administratorand moderators of a site don't need to explain their actions to anybody. That they do here is all that is required and more than happens in many communities. They set the rules. They administer the rules. They decide if anyone has broken their rules. If they wanted to ask you to stand on one leg and whistle ''Dixie'' to post here that is their right. Any community must be ruled by consent, or the members of that community will choose to leave. I know you were a teacher and probably one who is ignorant about the principle of the rule of law (ie that leaders must play by the rules as much as the led). If the free exchange of ideas and information is to be inhibited with explanation and without justification and this board becomes a place where people chit chat and only uncontroversial viewpoints (decided by who exactly?) are acceptable, you're welcome to it. But I should point out that those happy with that are a bunch of sad losers with no real friends. Come on people, that's what this place is for! It's a place to express views, argue and exchange information. It's not about what's my favourtie colour and what I had for tea yesterday. We should be able to put links up to Fitna, the Koran, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, the Hamas Charter - these things have real world significance. By having our access to them limited on the pretext they 'incite hate' is patronising, ignorant and misguided.
