In '63 I had just got my first job. I was living in Taunton in the West Country, and I vividly recall trying to plough through waist deep snow for a mile and more through the town centre to get to work - along with loads of others. There wasn't a single car on the roads, no ploughs had been through, but everyone tramped down the snow making it passable. The abiding memory was everyone pulling each other along, the laughter and even the house that offered us tea. I was over an hour late, and all through the morning people turned up, glowing. One girl in the office didn't make it but she lived over 5 miles away, she was still docked a days pay though!

when I were a lad we were forced to crawl to work through the very fires of hell itself - and that was after we had our legs amputated.

Nothing like a bracing hillwalk in a blizzard. Last time in Derbyshire even the sheep had decided to fcuk off and find a hotel.

Know that place well, used to go out with a couple of the lads from there. They did some good social gatherings now and then I went to a few of them. Hey, you don't happen to be........................... ??

I was speaking to someone in Germany this morning and apparently they're pishing themselves at the hopeless English.
Quite right too. I managed to get across two snow-bound counties on public transport this week without any problem

Started snowing here about an hour ago, I am praying for traffic madness so that my flight is cancelled and I can come over to London tomorrow instead. Some hope.

There were all these idiots on the news this morning demanding we invest billions in snow proof pavement gloss and such crap today in case we had another day like this in the next 20 years....
All I could think was "enjoy your day off you sour faced bastards"

I was thinking the same, Dwad. Walked up to Wandsworth Common on Monday and there were hundreds of kids, with their families, out, playing, enjoying themselves, having fun, no doubt going back to work on Tuesday feeling much happier and more contented. Why not allow ourselves just to have a fun day off?

I wish that the media would cover other areas beside London. I mean London is not Britain and the whole of the country does not close down. If you work in many industries you dont have the luxury of staying in bed because it snows. Farming for example, stock must be fed and cared for.

Skive the day off, build a snow-evertonian, have a snowball fight, go sledging into fences on a land rover roof, go to the pub, and Stop. Bloody. MOANING.

I wish that the media would cover other areas beside London. News bulletins would be a mite long if they had to cover the non-events not going on in every two-bit nowhere the length and breadth of the UK. My snow has stopped, ah nuggets I am going to have to tonight.
