I must confess that I've fallen behind on the secret undercover operations of Captain Lassie and Field Marshall Hobo (Kings Own 80's Dog Programme's Division). I have heard rumours that FM Hobo has put in a transfer request to join the Navy. Apparently he wants to be Captain of the aircraft carrier HMS Great Theme Tune. That's just a rumour though

well I think if there is such a ship it would only be right for him to captin it. And seeming as he is so multi talanted I reckon he could do it with his paws behind his back!

He'd probably get rid of the old crew and bring in his own. I'd like to see Petty Officer Willy Fogg join the ship for a start. And I wouldn't say no Commander Dogtanian either. I'd positively insist that the characters from Mysterious Cities Of Gold were also part of the compliment. Mind you, I'd have to make sure that everybody knew that Hobo was still Captain because he has the best theme tune.

From: Mitch The Teddy Sent: 9/27/2001 2:16 PM
Poseidon I'm afriad I have to put my hands up to a couple of things. Firstly, it was me who started the rumour that Hobo might be leaving the Regiment and joining the Navy, taking command of the good ship HMS Great Theme Tune. I did stress at the time it was a rumour, but I think Hobo would make a great Captain. He'd probably be able to introduce his own line in fish fingers if things went well. Secondly, I must apologise for daring to offer commissions to cartoon characters. However, in my defence, you surely couldn't go far wrong with some "children of the sun" with their golden condor against any sort of enemy. However, I realise the error of my ways and hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me. I hang my head

Sent: 9/27/2001 4:04 PM Poseidon : something for you in return for the hobo song lyrics: PoseidonPronounced As: posidn , in Greek religion and mythology, god of the sea, protector of all waters. After the fall of the Titans, Poseidon was allotted the sea. He was worshiped especially in connection with navigation; but as the god of fresh waters he also was worshiped as a fertility god. In Thessaly and other areas he was important as Hippios, god of horses, and was the father of Pegasus. Poseidon was represented as extremely powerful, with a violent and vengeful disposition. He carried the trident, with which he could split boulders and cause earthquakes. When Laomedon failed to pay him for building the walls of Troy, Poseidon sent a sea monster to ravage the Troad and years later vengefully assisted the Greeks in the Trojan War. His grudge against Odysseus is one of the themes of the Odyssey. He was the husband of Amphitrite, who bore him Triton, and by others he fathered many more sons, who usually turned out to be strong, brutal men (like Orion) or monsters (like Polyphemus). The Romans identified him with Neptune. ___________________________________ Message 549 of 12488 in Discussion From: Mitch The Teddy Sent: 9/27/2001 4:05 PM Little does our sniper friend realise but Lassie and Hobo are already in the building and are just about to storm in and "take him out" ___________________________________ Message 550 of 12488 in Discussion From: Yawper Sent: 9/27/2001 4:08 PM <Image of Poseidon in the nude ... lost in the ether!>Poseidon Poseidon, the earth-shaker, was alotted the dominion of the sea (just as Zeus got the sky and Hades the Underworld); and he received the trident from the CYCLOPES (just as Zeus got the thunderbolt and Hades a helmet). Message 587 of 12488 in Discussion From: Poseidon Sent: 9/28/2001 10:22 AM I was all ready to abandon this thread yesterday and leave it to you vultures who were believing the evil one (Yawper) with his slanderous lies!!! The line is still very thin as to whether I leave or not! Mutiny cannot be tollerated _________________________________________________ Message 588 of 12488 in Discussion From: Mitch The Teddy Sent: 9/28/2001 10:30 AM Would it change your mind if I publically denounced the evil doings of Yawper and stuck myself firmly in the Poseidon camp? Perhaps I could offer you a KitKat Chunky to help you mull it over? However, at the end of the day, your love for the Hobo will guide you through this difficult time and realise that you are needed on this thread _________________________________________________ Message 589 of 12488 in Discussion From: Poseidon Sent: 9/28/2001 10:33 AM It is a difficult time!!! If I sense any hint of mutiny from anyone (especially Mels as I thoight she was to be trusted more) and you (who have redeemed yourself by the skin of your teeth) then I'm out of here.....The Hobo and Lassie cause must be strong! _________________________________________________ Message 590 of 12488 in Discussion From: Mitch The Teddy Sent: 9/28/2001 10:36 AM I fully understand and once again offer my apologies. I'm sure Mels will be one of the first to offer the olive branch, belt out a quick tune on the pipes of peace and raise the flag of surrender. After all, we are all of us united in one common cause - our love for "The One" that is Hobo. That love will see us all through this difficult time _________________________________________________ Message 591 of 12488 in Discussion From: Poseidon Sent: 9/28/2001 10:37 AM ONWARD AND UPWARD!!!! _________________________________________________ Message 592 of 12488 in Discussion From: Yawper Sent: 9/28/2001 10:42 AM We must do as the Mistress comannds: <Another missing photo sorry>________________________________________________ Message 593 of 12488 in Discussion From: Mitch The Teddy Sent: 9/28/2001 10:43 AM Right then - now we've ironed out the creases on that, we need to get back to the case in hand, which of course is the behind the lines activities of our brave heroes? Have you heard anything about our plucky four-legged soldiers? ________________________________________________ Message 594 of 12488 in Discussion From: Mitch The Teddy Sent: 9/28/2001 10:46 AM Where are you getting these photo's from Yawper? _________________________________________________ Message 595 of 12488 in Discussion From: mels Sent: 9/28/2001 10:48 AM Hi, I'm here, and I pledge my alliance with Poseidon (sorry Yawper). So dont leave us, it wouldnt be the same without you! _________________________________________________ Message 596 of 12488 in Discussion From: Poseidon Sent: 9/28/2001 10:49 AM (Yawpers obsession with Greek Gods are really worrying.....someone highlight that Poseidon is not my real name or he'll be after me next......eeiiiiooooo...scary!) They are still scanning the Afganistan mountains, but are discreetly elimating any threatening action as they come across it.....It is more of an intelligence mission at the moment.....but when the time comes, they will strike swiftly and accurately!! _________________________________________________ Message 597 of 12488 in Discussion From: Poseidon Sent: 9/28/2001 10:54 AM By the way glad to see you are back mels. _________________________________________________ Message 598 of 12488 in Discussion From: Mitch The Teddy Sent: 9/28/2001 10:56 AM I told you Mels would attach her flag to you pole didn't I? Great stuff. I'm getting concerned that sending in just Hobo and Lassie might not be enough when it comes to the final fight. As a result I've put Pippin (from Woof - the story of a boy who could become a dog) on standby. Afterall, he's only been messing about with Julie Peasgoode on childrens TV _________________________________________________ Message 599 of 12488 in Discussion From: Yawper Sent: 9/28/2001 10:58 AM Try www.marquette.edu/history/Slides/Greek/Meanwhile Lassie is getting cold.. _________________________________________________ Message 600 of 12488 in Discussion From: mels Sent: 9/28/2001 10:59 AM I have my company day today so am leaving work at 12pm for a day of talks and drinking, however I will be sure to check back on Monday morning to see any developments. I did hear though that Hobo has infact found Laden's den and personally handed him an ulitmatium to surrender himself for a public execution asap! _________________________________________________ Message 601 of 12488 in Discussion From: cleptomaniax81 Sent: 9/28/2001 11:02 AM really __________________________________

Well MelsI think you should knock your company day on its head and join us here as we watch the developments of Hobo as they happen. I too have heard that Hobo has at last found the "den" and at this moment barking his orders out. Lassie has made a pincer movement to stop people leaving by the back door. I'm gonna send Pippin in right now if no-one has any objections??

After having literally a skin-full last night I'm thinking I might keep it quiet. Then again, I might pop down the local. Anyway, back to business.I agree that Pippin wouldn't last five minutes. I've explained this to him and he took it well. He is keen to do his bit though and with his smart tricks (one of the best roll overs I've ever seen) I think he might just surprise us.

Isn't that the dog from Tom and Jerry? Was his name Spike? Yawper I have to ask - you seem to have a dog fetish (more so than the rest of us with our love of Hobo). Can we assume that you infact love Lassie and trying to send out a sniper was infact a false front?

The Daz Dogs would be tremendous - although I did think they were part of the Emmerdale cast for a while.A bit like that Chocolate Family in Coronation Street - how come you never see them having a pint in the Rovers? I reckon Eddie from Frasier would also weild a good AK47. Word on the under ground grapevine is that Eddie has already signed up and is learning how to drive a tank.

The Kings Own Dogs Division, affectionately nick-named "Walkies" are ready for action whenever they are needed. Not only can they sniff out the enemy, they can bark lots and hump the enemies legs. Lead by the ever-present Hobo, they are truely a force to be reckoned with.

I see things have moved on since I left my PC for an oh-so-important meeting. Still, I'm back. Firstly, Timmy was a brave soldier who sacrificed himself so that his platoon could escape. Infact, he has been put forward for posthumous VC which would be nice. Lest we forget Pippin who also has perished. However, this has made Hobo more determined to kick ass.

Hopefully I'll be skipping hand in hand with a new Mrs so I won't have time (perhaps that should read trying to chat up a barmaid before being barred for being rude). 1000 on Monday. Long Live Hobo

Lassie and Hobo are far to smart to be coaxed out with doggie treats and as many walkies as they want. I have been unable to contribute for the last 3 days being as I have been attempting to hack in to NASA and capture a spy sattelite so that we can track lassie more closely. I had no luck on this score being as NASA is particularily secure. I did however manage to breach the ECHELON network and obtained a breif streamed video which showed Lassie being allive and well chasing after a un food drop, she has obviously run out of doggie drops. The connection only lasted a few seconds before ECEHLON administrators noticed me and booted me from the system. My conclusion from three days continuous on line time is that: 1 - The United Nations MUST start dropping doggie drops on Afghanistan now! 2 - That ECHELON Administrators devote 10% cpu time to Lassie Tracking 3 - That the European Space Agency are canvassed for support my thread members asking that a new sattelite be positioned in geo-stationanary orbit over Afghanistan for the purposes of tracking Lassie 4 - I need a shower and shave and will some one please get me a coffee??

Wilky, Lassie looked ok, her hair was matted and she had lost her collar. This is an important point being as the collar contained a GPS Transmitter allowing her to be tracked while on the ground. Other than that she was running full tilt after what appeared to be a large transport plain which was dropping food parcles. I only hope that some one remembered to put doggie drops in there.

Poseidon Sorry I'm late - dentist appointment - ARGHH Have gone back to Friday's thread & read all the latest - What would the world do without Lassie & Hobo? Sad we lost Pippin - maybe a joint memorial for Pippin & JR would be appropriate. Something tasteful like a big bone between two paws maybe. Will they be using Hobo et al in a mission to retrieve the data from the crashed spyplane?? With her studio experience, Lassie'd be a cert for the job of retrieving film/footage.

Hopefully along with the doggie drops the powers that be will have the foresight to issue Lassie with another transmitter. We can but pray that Hobo and Lassie find the film footage - however, without Lassie's GPS system we are all in the dark. I'd hope Hobo find the footage so he can put a catchy theme tune to it to lighten up the mood at the Pentagon

Keep us posted on how you get on Poseidon. To add to this Dunkirk Spirit that we have all found - I'm gonna write a quick short story to be published in Woman's Own, entitled Hobo and Lassie - Behind The Lines. Basically its a non-fiction based piece detailing what exactly our intrepid hero's are up to, very much in the same vein as Andy McNabb's Bravo Two Zero. Hopefully I won't be barred from visiting Hereford though, as Hobo has given me permission to write the copy. Cool.

I just heard that the beagle pup from 'cats and dogs' was being parachuted in behind the lines to assist Hobo and Lassie. (Can anyone remember his name? ) He would be an enormous help as he has the backing of all dogs everywhere, even the afghan hounds would probably help if we could get someone to infiltrate and start a doggy rebellion.

I guess any support is useful (as long as they aint cartoon characters!) but we dont want to send to many extra men (dogs) out or we'll lose track of the plot and it will be difficult to monitor!! Lassie and Hobo have a good team with them at the moment and have not requested reinforcements......remember theya re the SAS.....its about surprise, stealth and skill......there are not that many who have the relevant skills and also too many recruits would blow their cover!! SAS works in small efficient teams to keep a low profile. They are doing fine people, so have no fear......this tracker software is coming along nicely!!

Poisendon, Do you need any help with the tracker software? I have some of the original COBOL routines that traffic master was originally based on in the 70's. Unfortunately the project was cancled due to the limitations of the operating system at the time. I believe however that being as Afghanistan has a very poor (ie none) IT Infrastructure then COBOL would probably be the best choice of development environment for a project such as this. Having thought about it this was probably the reason why my attempts to re-route a NASA sattelite over afghanistan failed. I will try again after I have had a cup of tea. I've started the headers section for the new app, perhaps you would like to add your traffic master code then I'll try uploading it later, it may just do the trick......
IDENTIFICATION DIVISION. PROGRAM-ID. LASSIE-TRACKER. AUTHOR. HOBBO SUPPORT. INSTALLATION. VAX_VMS_COBOL_84. DATE-WRITTEN. 01-10-01. DATE-COMPILED. 01-10-01.

po Posendon, could I ask u write it as an ocx then my cobol code will interface with it directly? Personally I think COBOL is far the better choice here, just in case the code falls in to enemy hands..... If u go giving bin bags bills finest compilers (joke) then he'll be as up to date on technilogy as we r and may be able to use it against us! At least if we use COBOL it will take him a couple of years to realise its obsolite :-)
