very *friendly* person shaming? I think the surprise sex law sounds reasonable. But I would have thought Assange is accused of the opposite.

Ah Chertsey, lovely place. i do some bike races at the MOD test track there.
Possibly nothing to do with Assange really.
Although maybe he's a stalwart of the Surrey league.
I suspect he'd be a stalwart of the Hop if it was still going.
Frankly if I was going out and he turned up as the babysitter I think I'd stay in.
Carry on everybody, ignore me.

wonderful speech, he looked relaxed, in control, unafraid www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/full-transcript-of-julian-assanges-speech-outside-ecuadors-london-embassy-8061466.html“As Wikileaks stands under threat, so does the freedom of expression and the health of all our societies. We must use this moment to articulate the choice that is before the government of the United States of America. “Will it return to and reaffirm the values, the revolutionary values it was founded on, or will it lurch off the precipice dragging us all into a dangerous and oppressive world, in which journalists fall silent under the fear of prosecution and citizens must whisper in the dark? “I say it must turn back. I ask President Obama to do the right thing. The United States must renounce its witch-hunts against Wikileaks. The United States must dissolve its FBI investigation. “The United States must vow that it will not seek to prosecute our staff or our supporters. The United States must pledge before the world that it will not pursue journalists for shining a light on the secret crimes of the powerful. “There must be no more foolish talk about prosecuting any media organisation; be it Wikileaks, or be it the New York Times. “The US administration’s war on whistleblowers must end.''

As a precis for you mids, it says, "could we forget I'm skulking in a an embassy to avoid being prosecuted for a grubby little sex crime and try and pretend I'm being persecuted for saving the world."
Possibly mentions"this thing is greater than I could ever be"
and "if one child is saved it will all have been worthwhile"

I know you realise this oh - but that article is very, very, very slim on facts and pretty strong on clutching at straws.

You see, the thing is, it's possible to support the concept of Wikileaks, to suspect that Britain and the US aren't necessarily holding to the highest standards, to be aware of the links between the Swedish extradition lawyers and illegal rendition and still think that an accusation of f**k**g a girl in a way that she hasn't consented to, when she is unconscious, is pretty inappropriate behaviour. And considering that it is an act considered rape in both Britain and Sweden should, not unreasonably, actually be prosecuted as rape.
Or should we, you know, decide whether someone is a rapist or not purely because of their political views? Lefties can't be rapists because they support feminism, right? Whereas righties are all about oppression of those not in power so they're, basically, morally all rapists to start with and it's only good luck that they haven't actually raped anyone yet.
