"Sweden just don't seem like the kinda place to charge someone with rape without a pretty good idea it happened" No you see I disagree. I imagine Sweden to be one of those places where pretty much most forms of sexual encounter, not agreed to in advance, in writing, could be seen as rape... Although his allegedly penetrating a woman while she was asleep is rape under English law as the English judges have said.

Precisely the point, this is all a RE-investigation and despite all your protests of "nothing sinister" there is something sinister. It's just normal that the US are reminding everyone they are not actually signed up for diplomatic immunity as international law and their prior observation of it is not precedent creating. It's not sinister that the women either did not know they were raped or did not think they were raped when they went to the police, It's not sinister that the US wants Assange in their hands & Wikileaks shut down, nothing sinister, move along. No you see, despite all your protests of "something" sinister, there's actually nothing sinister here. You see?

And I don't think that is accurate in and of itself (or else most people are rapists and/or have been raped.) I think it's penetrating them when they're asleep when you have no good reason the feel they would have consented when awake. And if you then go on to 'clearly consent' I genuinely don't see how it could ever be seen as rape. You reckon that a woman who starts to give a guy head while he's asleep would face assault charges? Ha!

More importantly the women didn't charge rape when they went to the police station, their intent was to make him have an AIDS test. Be strange if they were in the police station and not mention it. I wonder what made they decide, all of a sudden, actually they think it's rape... I can envisage they themselves considering acquiesence as consent and only after a lot of persuading be informed they were raped and yes technically rubbing a boner against someone is molestation. Concerned only that they had some unprotected sex sought all involved to take an HIV test, something allowable under Swedish law. I'm more curious as to why they're persuing it, what once they did not consider important enough to allege rape is now their all consuming concern even if it means bringing down Wikileaks, a cause that had brought them together in the first place.

hes gonna be allowed to speak to the media from a balcony at the embassy I hope to christ he's read the helpful govt leaflet about not falling off your balcony. I'd hate to see this end in tragedy. Topical satire, very good.

Good comment on CiF. It could apply to many conspiracy theories.
"The theory that the CIA are behind the sex allegations against Assange requires not only politicians in the UK and Sweden to be compliant with US policy but also Assange's own 2 Swedish followers to make and stick with the allegations plus the judiciaries at local and national and junior and senior level of both EU countries. The CIA would have to be 100% certain that they would 'win' the extradition to Sweden and then win the one from there to the USA - seems like an incredibly convulated way of going about it, and one fraught with coming undone because someone in the chain came unstuck or leaked the 'truth'."

"Or will it lurch off the precipice, dragging us all into a dangerous and oppressive world in which journalists fall silent under the fear of prosecution and citens must whisper in the dark."
Err, like Ecuador then
