My personal view? Been there, done that before on another forum - it didn't work. The reason it didn't work there is the same reason it wouldn't work here. Too often a thread is started that has nothing to do with Islam, but someone will bring it up within that thread, and before long that takes over the whole topic - totally off topic. Then some will complain and want the thread moved over - others will insist that if that one gets away with it , then all Islamic threads should too. And so on, and so forth. Causes more arguements than it's worth, and makes a moderators life hell as no matter what they do, they are gonna annoy someone!

Having said that, it's not my decision to make, it's Foxy's - that (above) is just my view based on previous experiences.

I haven't been around and it's not because of the 'Islam' threads.
I've been busy and have had other things on my mind.
Bit of a brainstorming week for me.

I tend to believe that discussion groups all over the web will contract for a while, at least.

These groups have grown and been very popular for about the last 13 or so years. They have largely been fueled by heated bi-laterl discussions.

On the one hand, those that might call themselves right wingers, supporting greater military, alarm over mainly Muslim fundimentalists, support for Israel and objections to precieved government interference.

On the other those that oppose military, seek engagement with anti-western forces, tend to criticise Israel, to a greater or lesser extent and support government intervention,

With the very humiliating demise of Bush and the economic, social and security mess he has left behind, the right wing is somewhat bowed.

Israel is begining to show its colours as increasingly anti-western.

The right wing seems to feel it has lost its credability.

The mode of rhetoric the right wing have employed has been to describe a doomsday senerio then ask if the rest of us want this. It is difficult to say anything other than no. To argue brings accusations of being blind or worse.

So the right wingers are in retreat. Their position has been seen to be built upon sand. They are withdrawing to silence.

The result for discussion boards such as these will be contraction. On another discussion board, the activity was at least as busy as this one, up to about 4 or 5 years ago. Then, gradually, increasing numbers of non-right wingers, many very intelegent demolished most of the right-wing arguments. The right wingers began to leave, many I noticed, turned up on NEWS MSN.

The manager there closed the sub boards and allowed any discussion on any topic that wasn't illegal.

That board has survived, albeit, considerably smaller and quieter.

Eventually, the non-right wingers will be fighting the rear guard. The right wing will return.

This is a possible way forward for NEWS.

Such a happy looking chap if a bit dim looking. The complete opposite of yours truly. I'm more of a Victor Meldrew only worse......thats one of the reasons I wouldn't watch the tv prog as I found too many uncomfortable home truths!
