Anyway, poor woman. I doubt the kid will go back in the water any time soon.

There's some big old Great Whites off the Pacific coast of Mexico, and it could have been a Bull shark, especially in brackish water. I thought Mexico would be a tad warm for great whites? If it bit her leg off, it's going to have to be a decent sized one.

Ah, the waters on the Pacific seaboard are very cold and oxygen rich, unlike the Gulf coast.
Mark Twain said that the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.

"A fisher"
That's actually worse than the man getting killed by a shark.
"This type of attack is so rare that Greg Skomal, a marine biologist at the University of Boston and head of the shark program at Massachusetts Marine Fisheries, has never heard of it occurring. "As rare as shark bites on humans can be, decapitation is even more rare,""
Hasn't he seen Jaws?

I guess he know what he's talking about then.

"A fisher" is so very, very wanky. If the bloke was a fisherman, just f**k**g say so. Was he also "a frog"? They could have just gone with "a diver".

Oh, hang on. The diver was using a diving helmet arrangement so it seems much more likely that he was de-bodied. What a wierd take.

Proper gruesome that. It sounds like they might have pulled up his breathing apparatuses with his noddle still in it.

That’s a great article: “This type of attack is so rare that Greg Skomal, a marine biologist at the University of Boston and head of the shark program at Massachusetts Marine Fisheries, has never heard of it occurring. "As rare as shark bites on humans can be, decapitation is even more rare," added Chris Lowe, the director of the Shark Lab at California State University, Long Beach. So what could have caused this unusual type of attack?” “López's position on the seafloor may explain why the shark attacked his head and shoulders. "It was the most accessible part of the person's anatomy," Naylor said. Most scallopers essentially "walk along the bottom" so the shark could not have approached the victim from underneath and approaching from the side would have likely left the shark open to a potential counterattack from its prey, he added. Lowe agreed that "the person's orientation in the water relative to that of the shark" plays a key role in where they are bitten. ” The bit about them having poor eyesight and so 60% of shark attacks happening in murky water is interesting.

They're at it again. Bull shark or tiger shark, I say. Bit unlucky getting killed on your honeymoon. PICTURED: Boston woman Lauren Erickson Van Wart, 44, who was mauled to death by shark 'in front of … mol.im/a/12830533 via dailym.ai/android

I’m glad to know it was the first day of the honeymoon. That makes all the difference of how tragic it was. They didn’t even get to enjoy a full day in the Bahamas. If only they’d been able to partake in the hotel buffet once it wouldn’t feel quite so sad.

"A teenage boy was killed by a shark while surfing, with Australia witnessing a spike in attacks on its southern coast. The body of the 14-year-old was recovered from the water near Ethel Beach, in the Innes National Park on the Yorke Peninsula. A local resident said the attack at the popular holiday and surfing spot was the first fatal incident in the area he was aware of. But it is the latest in a series of incidents in Australia recently. It is the fifth attack recorded in waters in South Australia this year, three of which were fatal. The boy was around 30 to 40 metres away from the shore when the shark attacked him, according to reports. In a statement, South Australia Police said they were made aware of the attack at 13.30 local time on Thursday. “Sadly, the body of a teenage boy was recovered from the water,” the statement said." www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2023/12/28/shark-kills-teenage-boy-australian-surfing-hotspot/

Do we think it's because Australians increasingly look like sea lions, or because they taste like sea lions? Either way, it's because of too many shrimps on the barbie.
