NT is know to be croc infested and while not common it’s certainly not u heard of for croc attacks for people daft enough to swim in the water.
Poor kid.

Yeah. You'd struggle to persuade me into the ocean here, even though there are almost no shark attacks and sharks basically have little interest in eating humans.
You'd never get me in water full of crocodiles who are all very happy to eat people unless it was some pretty extreme circumstances.

I agree with that. I'm not sure if this is true but I get the impression crocs will almost always try to eat you if they come across you whereas sharks almost never will. Freshwater Aussie crocs are the exception- apparently you can swim with them and they don't try to eat you.

"The severed leg of a surfer who was attacked by a shark has washed up on an Australian beach, with doctors now racing to see if it can be reattached. Kai McKenzie, 23, was surfing near Port Macquarie in New South Wales (NSW) on Tuesday, when a 3m (9.8ft) great white shark bit him. He managed to catch a wave into shore ...." www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cprqxqz2denoI'd be amazed if they could reattach it. Medical science couldn't save Voice's finger and that hadn't been rolling around in the sand and surf for half an hour.

I love that they try and translate meters to feet precisely, as if someone has measured the shark to be exactly 9.8ft long.
Anyway
- poor bastard for getting bit - lucky bastard for surviving - daft bastard for surfing in sharkland - tough bastard for riding a wave to shore after having his leg bit off
It would be incredible if they could reattach his leg. But I assume that sanitary salt water conditions followed by ice mean that it's not been in the kinds of places Voice's finger had been in and therefore won't be diseased and ruined.

I'd be amazed if it was viable, though there's a lot to work with, they'll probably use shunts for the blood supply and muscle and skin grafts, but it's a stretch

It would make me cough my heart up. A 10' blue shark could do a bit of damage to a kid, and I think they've been known to have a nip.

A basking shark, so no threat to humans whatsoever.

I say "no threat to humans" but, like mids, I'd probably leave a turd-slick the size of Long Island as I exit the water faster than Adam Peaty on speedball.

Ew.
Chances are you'd never see it unless it broke the surface or you had a mask on and were looking in its direction if it was close to you.

Y'see, luck ain't exactly my strongest suit, so I'd probably be up against the only basking shark in Christendom that identifies as a Great White. Fact.

Ouch. Of course he could have drowned and his body chewed by a shark. "A teenager has been decapitated in a horror shark attack after he went swimming off the Jamaican coast. Jahmari Reid's body was reportedly found with his head missing and his left arm bitten off. The 16-year-old had gone spearfishing near the popular tourist town of Montego Bay on Monday, according to local police. The high school student vanished after going out into the water by himself and his mauled body was recovered on Tuesday." www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13791431/boy-decapitated-shark-attack-swimming-Jamaica-coast.html

Apparently, he died of acute dandruff. They found his head and shoulder in the shark's stomach.

I guess he is a young boy though and they tend to do that. Poor chap. I don’t know if it is better to think he drowned then was chewed or was attacked by the shark which killed him.

I think people who regularly go spearfishing are going to be in the group who can swim pretty well and know what to do in currents. He might have been doing something stupid - he was 16 - but I doubt it was like a tourist getting out of his depth.
