I don't like to take the piss too much because it wa a genuine tragedy but this reads like a parody. "At 6pm on Wednesday, Father Alan Everett stood at the front of St Clement’s church, close to Grenfell Tower, in London, to say the Lord’s prayer. His words were softly echoed by a dozen or so people, nearly all women, who had come to mark the beginning of a 24-hour vigil for victims of the disaster a year ago. Following the prayer, Everett took a seat in the back row of the church for some moments of silent contemplation. Others lit remembrance candles, wedging them in sand-filled containers on the floor. There were no voices, no music, only the distant sound of crying baby. Throughout the night the Lord’s prayer will be repeated on the hour, every hour, by a roster of clerics from local churches. At 1.30am, the time at which the fire took hold on 14 June 2017, the names of the 72 victims will be read aloud. On Thursday at noon the silence will spread across the country for 72 seconds as the nation remembers the people of Grenfell – not only those who died but also their families and loved ones, survivors, members of the local community and those who stepped in to help." www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/jun/13/grenfell-tower-24-hour-vigil-to-mark-anniversary-of-tragedyIs Brian Rix to Star as a Cleric?

The BBC have been lives streaming the events all morning. It's all gone a bit awkwardly amateurish now in the church. There was a bloke playing some sort of "African" drum earlier.

Maybe Remembrance Sunday should be scrapped in favour of Grenfell Day?

Bloody hell, this is getting plain creepy now: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-44475913"Hundreds of people have taken part in a silent procession in honour of the 72 people killed in the Grenfell Tower fire a year ago. It follows a memorial service held at St Helen's Church, near the tower in west London."

"There were green ribbons tied around pillars, scarves on seats and banners were hung for the service, where Amazing Grace was sung.
After the service doves were released outside the church."
Oh no, I'm gonna ........

"Ms Mendy then led the silent procession towards Grenfell Tower, accompanied by other bereaved relatives carrying a large floral display spelling "Humanity for Grenfell".
Walking behind were mourners with single white roses and green heart signs reading "strength", "love", "unity", "grace", "just us" and "truth"."

You do wonder if any any of the communi'y leaders have ever stopped and thought, "hang on, is this a bit much?"

It does seem genuinly strained now, like a bunch of carers desparately trying to keep a severely autistic kid from wigging out in the middle of a wedding ceremomy by distracting them and paying OTT attention.

Good to see that they've got to the investigation stage. I thought I'd read somewhere that the dreamcatcher and chanting stage was to continue until 7 Eids had passed.

The general sloping of shoulders continues: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45024375Fire door manufacturers are catching the flack now. That's got to be bollocks surely? Any fire door is made to a standard as tested by the BBA (I think.) Of course, if it's badly fitted and/or maintained then that's going to compromise performance but that's not usually anything to do with the contractor. This stinks of blame-shifting and muddying of waters. I don't even think this is necessarily about the LA shifting the grief. I suspect the insurers are now in the driving seat.

Tenants in council flats often change the door.
Minimum of 30 mins is the usual standard, and if fitted recently with intumescent strips, a letter box ditto and no more than a 3 mm gap at the bottom of the door

I would have thought half hour on internal doors to protect means of escape in the flats for one hour in the corridors and hallways of the building.
I expect this will be about poor maintenance but there are loads of reasons why fire doors become ineffective e.g. door closers being incorrectly tensioned/knackered/disconnected. Quite aside from that, fire doors are often chocked open for ease of access and what is the favourite thing used for this purpose? A fire extinguisher.

Shouldn’t really be about poor maintenance, the place had just been “modernised” indeed, the modernisation was a big cause of the disaster, re, the outside cladding

Maybe, but it seems unlikely that the door manufacturers would skimp on what is their flagship product, which they have to have had type-approved and tested. I wonder if they put new doors in old frames and they weren't properly fitted. A new doorset should be spot on.
