I'm doing some plans at the moment for a mezzanine floor with offices above. It's quite clear that some of the "alternative mitigating measures" which used to be permitted are absolutely forbidden now. The LA's Building Control is back in charge, fo sho!

Maybe, but it seems unlikely that the door manufacturers would skimp on what is their flagship product, which they have to have had type-approved and tested. I wonder if they put new doors in old frames and they weren't properly fitted. A new doorset should be spot on. Not the door manufacturer, it’s possibly poor fitting These schemes are usually run by gang masters, similar to the ill fated cockle pickers. If you want a job there, you go via the gang master, we used to call it “lump Labour” Chances are they were cheap immigrant labour, poorly supervised. The speed the fire spread, I doubt if the pipe ducts were correctly “fire stopped”

I've seen armoured doors installed in walls you could punch a hole in.

The law-scum are going after the fire brigade now. Easy, badly-advised, vulnerable target I expect. It's an odd tack though. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-46508545

Interesting that the LFEB has a female commissioner. I dont think I've ever seen a female firefighter.

I tell you what though: it must be a right doss for blokes in the public sector right now. There's no point in knocking your pipe out for the top job as it ain't gonna happen.

I suppose anyone can leap-frog the commissioner queue if they're female and degreed-up. Bit like the police force. Experience is low down on public sector requirements list I expect.

It’s often the case that people are promoted way beyond their capability.
In the public sector, useless sods are often “promoted” this way. Decent tradesmen are difficult to find, and so are left on the tools.
The useless are promoted as “Damage Limitation”, stick them out the way, they are easily replaced.

That's about it NB. I worked in the civil service years ago; must say I loved every moment except their weird insistence that one was never late - 3 lates and big trouble which could lead to dismissal. But the rest, easy peasy, average pay, good hols, good sick leave, systematic promotion. In retrospect, I was silly to leave, but all I saw at the time was years of 9-5 drudgery ahead. So I walked.

"About 100 firefighters are dealing with a large fire at a block of flats in east London. The blaze took hold from the ground floor to the sixth floor of the flats in De Pass Gardens, Barking, at about 15:30 BST, forcing residents to evacuate. The Met Police said it was helping to deal with "a major incident"." www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-48574044Get your wallets out. It's your fault. You utter, utter, racist bastards!

Wow! The sharks have crossed the Atlantic. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48576580If Celotex are in the frame then there's gonna be massive repercussions as almost every new build in UK in the last twenty years is stuffed with Celotex panels, loft rafters especially.

Uh-uh! Now way. Perish the thought.
Mind you, if it doesn't go their way ..... I guess the lawyers will be taking their fees and expenses up front.

I assumed that too, but then I read that quite a few of the "victims" jibbed out of taking the case to the States. Now, human nature being what it is, I suspect that they would have been fine with it if it was risk-free.

Head of the London Fire brigade is taking early retirement after a lot of criticism of her handling of the fire. Interesting...
