"A huge fire has raged through the night at a tower block in Latimer Road, west London, with eyewitnesses claiming people are trapped in their homes." www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-40269625Hard to believe in this day and age. Someone's gonna get the bullet here.

It'll be interesting to see if it stays up.
It is said to be of concrete construction so I wonder if that's steel-reinforced concrete or concrete-clad steel frame.
Still, if everyone's got out, then the means of escape have worked. Doesn't sound like it though, I'm sorry to say.
The ES is suggesting that the cause was a discarded fag. I'd love to know how they know that.

Is it down in its own footprint yet? Any untouched ones alongside it?

It would have been nothing short of a miracle if there were no fatalities

"A number of fatalities" now being reported. Quite a lot I'd imagine, if there's anything left of them to discover.

The Labour Party proposed an amendment to the Government’s new Housing and Planning Bill – that would required private landlords to make their homes safe and “fit for human habitation” last year – but it was rejected by the Conservatives. link

The tower block should have been knocked down years ago. There are no tower blocks like that here, the highest here is only five stories high. The poor people must be in shock, and will be for a very long time. Jamie Oliver has opened his restaurant to all those affected by the fire.

High rise apartments are here, though the newer ones (under 40 years) have sprinklers, older ones usually have them retrofitted during any major remodel, insurance usually requires it, this was a government building?
