Is it because the government couldn't be arsed to enforce regulations, that they let private landlords get away with anything, that there are loads of blocks still covered in dodgy cladding?

Dunno. I'm pretty sure even the dodgiest of cladding doesn't spontaneously burst into flames.

Good to see that the students followed JRM's common sense advice and left the burning building. Maybe he was on to something after all?

"A senior police officer convicted of possessing a child abuse video on her phone has been told she faces "immense" career consequences."
A promotion awaits her, then.

"It was first reported by the Guardian that Ms Mehra is a past president of the Women's Engineering Society which, according to the society's website, last year received funding from the Arconic Foundation for an apprentice conference."
Hmmmmmm. Looks like the Guardian have banned anyone associated with the WES from being on the panel.

More public sector cuntery: "A man who was wrongfully arrested and sent to prison on remand has been awarded £100,000 in compensation from Police Scotland. In 2015 Gary Webb, from Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries and Galloway, was handcuffed and spent a night in a police cell and three nights in prison. The 60-year-old told The Sunday Post that police had his fingerprints and knew he was the wrong man. He said: "My life has been trashed after this. Completely trashed." Mr Webb, who has no criminal convictions, was arrested at his home by detectives who had a warrant for a different person." www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-51255287Nobody got sacked for this.

If they did it'd reduce the remaining police force by 25%.

On more Covid-19 silver lining is that the Grenfell Pity Party has been kicked into the long grass.
It'll be interesting to see whether the government's in the mood for silly compensation payments when this is all over.
No doubt many of the victims' lawyers have moved on to the shockingly racist Covid-19 scandal of 2020.

I imagine the lawyers are going to have a Covid field day over people who were forrced to work while Boris Johnson was telling us to all shake the hands of all the people in the Covid ward. It's going to be compo central.
It's why, I suspect, that loads of businesses rapidly shifted to work-from-home-where-possible long before the government got its head out of its arse and actually told people that was required. A lot of them were scared shitless of having a cluster in the office and everyone getting litigious on their arses. Many companies who didn't react are going to get sued out of existence.
