The BBC describes Portland as one of the most left-wing cities in America. It's really worth noting that it's pretty much the whitest big city in America. And that outside of the Willamette valley, Oregon is proper redneck confederate flag country. They had laws about lashing blacks still on the books in the 21st century. Blacks were banned from the state legally until the 1920s, I think. The white population of Portland think they're liberal, but they've all moved to the safest, whitest place they can. The story isn't as simple as it looks.
