You can do your own conveyancing. And NB, if you think UK estate agents are fcukers - they're nothing compared to ours: you tell them what you're looking for and they show you the opposite. And the % charged is anything from 3 to 8 - for doing fcuk all. And they lie. Worse than used-car salesmen.

I don't think that's a localised phenomenon. Estate agents everywhere show you properties that bear no relation to what you expressed an interest in. If you say "And please, don't show me any beige, cookie-cutter houses surrounded by other beige cookie-cutter houses", the second house they show you will be a beige cookie-cutter house.

We used to work for him. In fairness, his heart's in the right place but he lives in a very strange, patrician world of upper class Victorian gentlemen explorers. There's a touch of Walter Mittey there too, but they all go in for a bit of embellishment, which is a shame because they're often very capable and accomplished people.

A dying breed, mate. Which in a way is sad - we need eccentrics (without too much power) and those types which can cheer up our humdrum lives. But getting back to the original post, the world's getting so small, I despair; everywhere you look you find the same brand of north-face idiot with too much money defiling the last reserves of unspoilt territory. That's why we live here - it's peasant country and likely to stay that way.
