Here's another one: www.jimgump.com"Starting from the Royal Observatory in Greenwich in July 2018, Jim and his dog – Flow – will attempt to run the equator distance in their lifetimes together as companions. 951 cities and 195 countries lying across the 360 longitudinal meridians around the world and 25, 000 miles of adventure. Running on average 7 miles per day, reaching a new meridian every 10 days for 10 years. Exploring each city and country virtually as they go. Exploring the culture, people and wildlife virtually as they go."

Fair enough, if that's what he wants to do.

Yeah. Interesting life choice I guess. I wonder how he supports himself and his family (if he has one.)

"Sometimes, Jim adds on other daily activities in addition to the 10K run, such as swimming and/or cycling. (For example, Jim completed a triathlon every day for the whole of 2015 – 750m swim minimum, 20K cycle minimum and 10K run minimum – each day for 365 days)."
Fuckme. I think I'm hardcore walking the dogs every day.

Yeah. Interesting life choice I guess. I wonder how he supports himself and his family (if he has one.) Probably just take a year out. A guy I work with (and his fiancée) spend all their spare time / holidays doing extreme sporting event type stuff. I guess if your family members aren’t dependent on you / your income isn’t salary based it’s easy to do.

It's actually one of the benefits of the modern gig economy - there's nothing inherently stopping you from actually taking time to enjoy yourself rather than just being a salaryman obliged to spend time at the desk and with limited time off.
Of course, that's a benefit that almost exclusively accrues to people who earn enough to enjoy their time off, and not to the poorest in society.

Ahhh! Buried deep in the rubric:
"As well as the daily physical activity and school visits, and without substantial funding / sponsorship, Jim has also worked on a ‘day job’ throughout the project. (Jim runs his own business as a professional analyst and economist – Smart Growth)."
Very impressive. The bloke's a live wire.

I'm off to the Alps in a couple of weeks. Week pedaling over the Alps. 100 mile days and mountains. Stopping en route to tackle the marmotte I always enjoy the trips but, frankly, after a week I've had enough. I don't want to get up put my cycling kit on and pedal all day anymore. There's other sh*t to do. There's something deeply deranged about these bods. I suspect they aren't very good with people.

You do very well Ming. That's quite an achievement/undertaking for a man of your age (no slight intended, but we're none of us spring chickens.)

That is impressive Ming. I've got a mate, 60 years old, retired boomer and he spends about 50% of his time in France doing that sort of thing.

Ming, wasn't it you who told me that the Marmotte was a complete f**k*r? Full of complete amateurs taking all the descents like maniacs?
Ride careful.
I'm off to Alaska in under a month, and have somehow ended up committed to doing a 10 mile "run" that has a couple of near-1000 meter climbs in it.

Yep. Not my choice to be honest but they've neutralised the descent off the glandon so your time there doesn't count. I can think of a lot of sportives I'd rather do. Trois ballons is brilliant. Ariegoise, another belter. Liege bastoin liege. The marmotte is just one gruelling climb after another with crappy link roads connecting them.

Mother of mercy that run doesn't sound fun. It's bad enough tackling the climbs on a bike.

So why are you doing it? Trois Ballons always seemed great, helped by the fact that you're in Alsace with some of the best scenery, food, wine and people around. Basically, Germans with the edges rounded off with Frenchness, or Frenchies with the edges rounded of the Germannness.

Some of the lads I go pedaling with wanted to do it.
The Planche des belles filles at the end of the Trois Ballons is a bit cheeky.

Probably because it's in France.

I think he meant sending a pic is suspiciously french.
Probably right. No self respecting Englishman would send a pic, especially from the pimple de la bataille.
