Ming, wasn't it you who told me that the Marmotte was a complete f**k*r? Full of complete amateurs taking all the descents like maniacs? Ride careful. I'm off to Alaska in under a month, and have somehow ended up committed to doing a 10 mile "run" that has a couple of near-1000 meter climbs in it. Well, I got nerfed off on the marmotte descending the lautaret by some c*nt. Lautaret is a super fast descent, relatively straight, not technical just pin back your ears and don't touch the brakes, but some clown managed to side swipe me. Never even stopped the c*nt. I was fortunate to escape with some road rash and bruising and a busted spoke.

You need faith in your machine doing stuff like that - something I don't have. When we were in Wales driving L/Rover Defenders, at the end of the day we raced down a mountainside, half the time all 4 wheels off the ground. Not my cup of tea but something you had to do to be one of the gang.

I hate people who take descents totally balls out when they're not actually racing. It's just unnecessary. Anyway, what a cunt.
Meanwhile, I'm thinking about buying a new bike. Something a little stiffer with a bit better response on the upslopes. Possibly a Canyon Ultimate, but I just don't know.

Conditional discharge and a two year ban? Drivers get off so f**k**g lightly.

In fairness, that's probably a life term.

I'm thinking about getting a new bike as well torn between an SCR 950 or the Bolt 950, essentially the same bike, just configured differently.

Neither of those seem to have carbon wheels. And they both seem to weigh well over 10kg.

yeah, but they have a huge amount of torque apparently and a great retro styling. I no longer like crotch rockets (find em far too uncomfortable tbh) and no need to blast round as fast as possible (the roads here not as good as the UK), so these look fun.

The torque surely depends on the rider's thighs?

His knees couldn't take the riding position so he got a more upright bike. A Triumph something or other.

Nothing vague about old age. Getting there maybe.
