Haha. Yeah, I had no idea that plastic was an issue before this Environmental Martyr clued me in.
If only Ghandi could have roller-skated coast to coast ....

For some reason, they never seem to raise awareness by walking up and down their local canal in waders, fishing poly bags and condoms out the stinking, foetid mud. It's always America or Kilimanjaro. There must be more awareness on the slopes of Kilimanjaro than in Greenpeace head office.

Good point. I know I'm being ungenerous and chippy, but what background does this water-borne Womble have in environmental science? Oh, a bachelor's degree in English from <snigger> Nottingham Trent Uni. (formerly .... etc.)

Almost everyone I know who "raises awareness" or "raises funds for X" doesn't really give a toss. They just want to do the thing they're doing. It's always a lie that it's about "charity". It's about personal ego, and personal enjoyment.
I ran my first ever Parkrun today, in just over 27 and a half minutes. I did it to raise awareness of blokes with bellies who like beer and pie still being able to run.

I just finished the hardest canoe and portage trip of my life, the paddling wasn't so bad, about 80K all told, so not the longest I've done, but the portages were brutal, one was 6 and half hours another 6 and the shorter ones were a mare 4 hours, and non of them were longer than 2.4 km. It was the elevation changes from lake to lake that we the killer, either steep switch backs going up or down, often with stairs. Not sure I've ever been this bone tired in my life.

amazing to be honest, saw bears, dears and eagles. Its a long way from the Leeds Liverpool Canal where I first got into kayaking as a kid.

Although you'd think you'd plan a route with not too many portages if you're going for the kayaking.

It was a linked lake circuit and we used canoes not kayaks, but it our plan B, we had to abandon the other trip we'd planned due to massive wildfires making it impossible to get there, so it was all rather light in terms of research on the rout, but I've got to say, although it was very challenging, I loved it. 8 days in the wilderness, no cell coverage, no sound of cars in the background, some very clear night sky and a full moon to boot. Only saw about 3 other people the entire trip.

I'm reading a book about teams of people racing* through extreme conditions, in this case the Ecuadorean jungle. Written by a Norwegian, it tells how he gets adopted by a stray dog en route which he ends up taking back to Norway. I didn't realise this sort of extreme sport was recognised as such. Book's called 'Arthur' by the way.
* 'Adventure Racing' they call it.

its a popular thing here abouts, there's one starting just north of Whistler this Thursday, an acquaintance is doing it, he does a lot of extreme race events, running, mountain biking and so on. Its insane stuff, but he's fit as a butchers dog mind.

"Why do people like this make me want to kick walls?" Nothing but narcissism. The "look at me, look at me, look at me!" youtube generation. This one will want to make you put your head through the wall. "Naked and Afraid""Each episode chronicles the lives of two survivalists (1 man; 1 woman) who meet for the first time and are given the task of surviving a stay in the wilderness naked for 21 days. After they meet in the assigned locale, the partners must find and/or produce water, food, shelter, and clothing within the environment." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naked_and_Afraid#Critical_receptionHook of the show? Nakedness. Cameras spend most of the show focused on the contestants butts and boobs.

Yeah that is of the shitest concepts for a show, together with Alone, the whole thing appears to be an hour long moan about how much they are suffering.

I went outside today. Now make that into a race thing. You're so f**king obsessed with nothing but skin color, surely you can find something racist about going outside.
