Woman dies after acupuncture using live bee stings instead of needles Acupuncture is gaining popularity around the world as a harmless, if unproven, alternative method of pain relief. But are some people taking the practice too far by using bee stings instead of needles? A 55-year-old Spanish woman died after receiving live bee acupuncture, according to a case study published in the Journal of Investigational Allergology and Clinical Immunology. The cause of death was a severe allergic reaction to the venom, though she had previously attended about 24 sessions. She is believed to be the first person to die from the therapy despite previously showing no signs of an allergic reaction. nationalpost.com/health/woman-dies-after-acupuncture-using-live-bee-stings-instead-of-needlesThe wonderful world of woo is getting more and more insane. There is an aged piss movement gaining population among the lunatics who seek 'natural' remedies, a woman just got arrested in Australia for injecting aged urine into her child, while in the States some mother got arrested for injecting a concoction containing human sh*t into her child's IV while in hospital, luckily she was observed and they saved the child from almost certain death, and deaths and serious injuries from chiropractors continues to rise. More needs to be done to protect the desperate the vulnerable and the gullible from these dangerous quacks.

Height of stupidity or what? You can keep bees for years, be stung dozens of times, then one day you can suffer a reaction and die. Fact.
There's no accounting for folk, but herbal medicine's been used effectively for thousands of years, so we shouldn't chuck that particular baby out with the bathwater.

I agree. As an aside, if you cut yourself and can't staunch the bleeding, yarrow leaves (Achillea millefolium) crushed up and applied - after you've let the wound bleed for a bit to clean it - works without fail. We've used herbs for years for minor ailments, but when it comes to big pain you can't beat the doc'. Kidney stones? Give me morphine - still a refined 'erb.

we use calcium alginates, derived from sea weed, to stop bleeding. One of the reason its better to use medically prepared and processed products is largely infection control, ground your own sea weed and you could introduce an infection.

I just love this one, the woosters just love essential oils for treating almost anything they can treat imagined or real. www.bbc.com/news/health-43429933More evidence essential oils 'make male breasts develop' A suspected link between abnormal breast growth in young boys and the use of lavender and tea tree oils has been given new weight, after a study found eight chemicals contained in the oils interfere with hormones.

Well, that's almost a good sign, because at least it means the essential oil is doing something

True enough, I’ve been stung a few times, usually not an issue, but occasionally I can get quite a reaction, Not life threatening, just a tad uncomfortable. We (beekeepers) often compare experiences with stings, so far we can’t say if it’s the strain of been, a particular colony etc, or just where we get stung. Bee stings have been used for the treatment of arthritis for years, I’m not convinced it works.

We have hornets here, big fcukers. Can be dangerous if you upset them. But generally if they arrive and you don't get silly and start waving your arms about, they're as harmless as anything else; they take a look at you and move on.

FFS!"

Well, in the height of the season, I usually have 10 colonies with and average of 40k bees in each.
I might get stung two, maybe three times a fortnight, that’s not bad odds, and usually it’s my fault, usually because I trap one under my finger lifting out frames.
re, ach me joints,,,,,,,,,🐝🐝
Remedy I was given once, “wear a pair of shoes two sizes to small, you’ll be in so much pain, you’ll forget any other troubles you have” 😀

I can’t help but to be intrigued by the reasoning behind this newly achieved level dumbfuckery. Sure lots of people die while receiving treatment, are you trying to say if you receive treatment but die anyway (as we all must) the treatment is invalid or the reason you died is the treatment and not the disease or condition you were being treated for, or that if you'd received snake oil and woo you would have somehow fended off death?

More people die in hospitals than anywhere else. Therefore, hospitals are dangerous. Don't go in them.

yeah true, and to the simple of mind it must mean hospitals are there to kill you and if you'd only stayed away you would have been fine.
