California shocked to find bill decriminalizing retail theft resulted in more retail theft"The law raised the value of the amount of merchandise someone could steal while still only being charged with a misdemeanor to nearly one thousand dollars" "To the great surprise of the government, people noticed this change and began taking advantage of it. They have now recorded multiple years of steadily increasing, organized robbery. These plots are known as “mass grab and dash” thefts and they generally involve large numbers of young people all entering a store at the same time, grabbing armfuls of merchandise and dashing back out to their vehicles and hitting the highway. Not only are robberies on the rise, but arrests and prosecutions are down. Who could possibly have predicted this?" hotair.com/archives/jazz-shaw/2019/09/26/california-shocked-find-bill-decriminalizing-retail-theft-resulted-retail-theft/

Minimum wages - pffft. Should let the market dictate. Unfortunately with big business cornering all the markets a minimum wage is a necessity.

The reason there are tens of thousands of homeless in NYC, is because of low wages, and their rent too high, around 90% of their wages went on rent alone, before any other bill.

Minimum wage is great. Just like preventing monopolies. The market doesn't work when it's unregulated. And people need to be able to afford to live.

Minimum wage is great. Just like preventing monopolies. The market doesn't work when it's unregulated. And people need be able to afford to live. Problem. Small employers, like neighborhood restaurants, can't afford to pay the higher wage. So either they go out of business or fire some help so they can afford to pay the higher wage to fewer employees.

They don't understand Rick - they're theorists. It's the law of the jungle out there.

Really? How's that worked out so far Mr. Rackman? Yeah, use a one-off arsehole as an example to prove your point. In fact what is your point?

What does a reference to Rackman have to do with the consideration of controlling rents as way of making life easier for the lower paid?

Minimum wage doesn't damage small businesses any more than big businesses. It does, though, force them to pay a fair wage. And also makes sure they charge a fair amount for their products and services. People are too accustomed to paying dirt cheap prices for stuff that only exist through the exploitation of underpaid staff.

no one here who wants to really hire someone offers minimum wage, I was at Walmart, big banner saying hiring starting at 10.50, the best way to increase wages is increase demand for employee's, not some silly law, living wage goals are being achieved naturally ,
