Appealing as that might be, I fear it would perhaps run the risk of setting a precedent with other crimes.

Works for the Israelis!
Their families are probably on the dole anyway, so we'd still pay for it...

Yes, I can see how it works for the Israelis - the high-water mark when it comes to peace and understanding amongst its people.
And yes, we're paying for it.

A transcript and portions of a video show a Minnesota woman who was urged by her boyfriend to shoot him for a YouTube stunt gone wrong tried to resist. The Norman County prosecutor on Friday released the transcript and portions of the video Pedro Ruiz III, 22, took with his girlfriend, Monalisa Perez, 20, last year. Perez, who was pregnant at the time with their second child, was heard in the video telling Ruiz she could not shoot him. Ruiz asked his girlfriend to shoot him with a .50 caliber handgun while he held an encyclopedia to his chest. He assured her that he had done it before with a different book. “As long as you hit the book, you’ll be fine. Come on.” Ruiz told her. The bullet went through the book, killing Ruiz on June 26, 2017. In December 2017, Perez pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter. She was sentenced to 180 days in jail. She will serve her sentence in 30-day installments each year for six years www.foxnews.com/us/2018/06/23/new-video-shows-woman-trying-to-resist-youtube-stunt-that-killed-boyfriend.htmljust hit the book, what can go wrong?

I've seen a .45 bullet go through a 12" diameter tree. And this is a guy in a country where guns are everyday business?

She hit the book. The trouble was that she was using a 50 caliber gun to shoot a couple of sheets of paper from super close range.
It seems like a really weird sentence, to have her serving time over the course of 6 years. I feel like that would make rehabilitation much harder, and make it almost impossible to hold down a job.

I hope they suspend most of her sentence, I don't really feel any safer with her in jail, agree it will make it hard for her to hold down a job

It's a shame that "being a Scouser" isn't a recognised paying job.

Now she can post a video not of the book stopping the bullet, but of him getting a hole blown through him and suffering a painful, worthless death.
That should get more views than the initial plan would have. A posthumous accolade to be proud of.

"More than 60 people have been killed and 100 hurt after a train ran into a crowd near Amritsar in India's northern Punjab state, police told the BBC. The victims were standing on the railway tracks watching celebrations for the Hindu festival of Dusshera, eyewitnesses told BBC Punjabi. They did not hear the train approach as they watched a firecracker-filled effigy of the demon king Ravana burn." www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-45913793What a bloody silly waste.

Although there was probably a rapist among the 60 killed, so it's not all bad.

I get wound up by a fly in the car when I'm driving. Can't imagine what it'd be like with a magpie.

Oh in fairness - Australian magpies are f**k**g vicious bastards who have a tendency to swoop/peck at unsuspecting pedestrians / cyclists who pass close to trees where they have their nests.

Yeah not weird, just Australian:
“The Australian magpie is a different species to the European bird with which it shares its name. During mating season, the bird can become aggressive and attack humans crossing its territory.”
Doesn’t really merit a Darwin Award.

Well of course not, as this happened in New South Wales. Maybe they should give him a Wollon-gong.
