It is inevitable though don't you think, totally autonomous cars and trucks, maybe not as soon as Musk would have to believe, but it's coming

Definitely inevitable. And I look forward to it, not as much because I can sit back and do something else but because it will get a lot of idiot drivers out from behind the wheel.

It should, in theory, ease some traffic problems. Save on fuel and cut down on pollution too.

Yeah, all good. Cut down on congestion for sure. Imagine your car finding out about a accident on your route seconds after it happens and rerouting accordingly. You would hope cars have indirect communication also, so not all cars are rerouted, just enough to strike the right balance.

I've always thought it would be good to have a drone that could take off and show you video of hold ups ahead when you're stuck in traffic. Of course it might not work too well if dozens or even hundreds of drones all take off at once to have a look.

Driverless Motorbikes that's what we need. Set them off on their own.

I've been trying to work out the best way to get to Granada later this year. It's looking like the only real option is to drive if we want to take the dogs and have a car while we're there. Imagine getting in your car in West Sussex and having a quiet kip in the back as you're driven to southern Spain. Thing is, you wouldn't need to stop for overnight, just drive on through the night.

You could have built in commodes in the seats so you wouldn't have to stop at all.
You could get the ferry to Santander and drive from there.

Yeah, that was my first thought as I could stop at my folks and go from Plymouth but it's 20+ hours at sea, very expensive and I don't think it runs all year round. I would still have around 11 hours of driving the other side.
I think we'll just go Callais to Bordeaux, Bordeaux to Madrid and Madrid to Granada (well, somewhere nearish there, in the mountains).

Don't take the dogs. Fly drive. Recommended.

We're planning to go for a couple of months, so leaving the dogs behind isn't an option really. My daughter will still be at home but, you know, dogs need walking, feeding etc.

Ha! Winters are horrible here, we have learned after one winter (it doesn’t help that when I say the winter was horrible, the locals respond with “What are you talking about? This was mild!”). We’ve also got to a position where employers finally realise that working remotely is actually reasonable. So we’re trying to work out where it would be possible to spend our winters. The key question, similar to Baloo, is “how far south can you reasonably drive in a day, because taking the cats into hotels is horrible.” And obviously cats - while independent - can’t be left for months on end.

I don’t have that excuse. I just got used to living without winter. And it was really nice. Anyone who says things like “don’t you miss the seasons” is wrong in the head. Seasons are rubbish. People only say they like the seasons because they never knew any different. And snow, skiiing, all that winter stuff, is for visiting briefly, not for living in.

It's not really about the weather for me, just a bit of an adventure and a changeof scenery, if my job will allow it. I expect that it'll be bloody cold up that high, but largely dry and sunny.

"A mother whose baby son drowned in the bath while she was "distracted" on her phone has been jailed for 22 months. Simone Perry's five-month-old son Renzo slipped out of his bath seat when she left the room for five minutes to send a WhatsApp message and make a call." www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-56860846Poor little kid. On balance, he's probably dodged a bullet. Now this is priceless: "Perry's barrister David Nathan QC had argued for a non-custodial sentence, saying his client's "lapse" had occurred amid an otherwise satisfactory standard of care. "Plainly this is a young woman with significant problems identified in the psychologist's report," said Mr Nathan."

I dropped one of mine off the change table once, kind of spun him round in mid air and caught him just before his head smacked into the corner of a table. Really shook me up at the time it was very close to being something serious.
