I’ve got to say that America’s iron dome technology is reassuringly effective. America is probably fine against most aerial attacks by the look of things. Maybe Russia’s super low altitude high speed missiles can dodge it, but not much else.
It also means Iran has probably blown their wad and can’t do anything more. Once again any more war will be Israel’s doing

Hamas. I'm pretty sure they were fairly elected because the EU... oh, hang on...

Were Hamas elected in Lebanon?
In fact, when did Hamas last win an election in Gaza?

I see eight Isreali soldiers have been killed in southern Lebanon. That's very sad for their families, especially as they must realise it'll achieve nothing.

Yeah, eventually. After they'd murdered enough British conscripts. Link?

I'll grant you that Israel has been heavy-handed in its response. That said, I don't think anyone should expect peace and happiness if you elect a terrorist organization to run your government. War with Israel is basically their whole platform. Sorry, but apart from Likud, which terrorist organizations have been elected? You could make a case in Iran, perhaps, but that’s not a free election Hamas in Gaza.

Sorry, but apart from Likud, which terrorist organizations have been elected? You could make a case in Iran, perhaps, but that’s not a free election Hamas in Gaza. “ It was in January 2006 that the Palestinian territories held what turned out to be their last parliamentary elections. Hamas won a bare plurality of votes (44 percent to the more moderate Fatah party’s 41 percent) but, given the electoral system, a strong majority of seats (74 to 45). Neither party was keen on sharing power. Fighting broke out between the two. When a unity government was finally formed in June 2007, Hamas broke the deal, started murdering Fatah members, and, in the end, took total control of the Gaza Strip. Those who weren’t killed fled to the West Bank, and the territories have remained split ever since. In other words, Hamas’ absolute rule of Gaza is not what the Palestinians voted for back in 2006. In fact, since the median age of Gazans is 18, half of Hamas’ subjects weren’t even born when the election took place. Since they have known no alternative, have absorbed little information but Hamas propaganda, and have witnessed periodic outbursts of violent conflict with Israel throughout their lives, it is impossible to know what they really think about their rulers.“

I was talking about Gaza. Yes, 20 years ago, which coincides with the last election they've held.
I skimmed over baloo's link and and don't see anything about the Irgun being elected. (Begin as a former member, yes.) Van's link says nothing to the contrary of what I stated.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, you said you shouldn't expect peace if you elect a terrorist organisation. A terrorist organisation didn't get a majority vote in an election 20 years ago and they just seized power through violence, so it's a bit tenuous to suggest that Gazans want their terrorist leadership.
But even if that was all fair, the current Israeli war is in Lebanon, not Gaza. And before that it has been in the West Bank.

Yes, they did get a majority vote in that election.
The fact that they then went on and seized complete power through violence (shocker) was just the icing on the cake.

I'm not sure how Hamas failing to win an election in Gaza and then taking over by force is the Lebanese public deserving what they get.

My comment on them getting elected was about the violence in Gaza, not Lebanon.
What makes you think they didn't win the election? They won the poplar vote and gained the most seats by far as a result.

They didn't win the popular vote. They won less than half.
