Watched the first episode of Simon Reeve's new four-part series Wilderness last night.

Trekking through the Congolese jungle where there are 20 species of venomous snake close by, fleas that will burrow into your ankles before depositing an egg sac there, and flying insects the size of a NATO drone all gave me pause for thought and somewhat hastened my booking of a Butlins caravan in Bognor for the summer.

In fairness to the man, his writing I find very good - almost unputdownable.

The Golden Hour, a Dutch crime/cop show, started out ok but the end of the second episode was just stupid.

It doesn't get any better. We soldiered on, but they've caught a nasty case on BBC inclusivity-vision.

Did you enjoy it as a film, or just as trolling? I've been unable to work out if there's any pleasure to be had from watching it as trash action movie if you detach it from the politics. Nobody seems willing to answer the question.

I've been watching seasons two and three of Jack Ryan. A lot of people were talking about the new Reacher series and I've always got my two Action Jacks confused, doubly so as they're both on Prime. I hadn't realised Krasinski had made more than the first season. It's fun trash. Third one so far has too much car and running chases and fighting - the second one had a much nicer balance that was mostly plotting and travel with little bits of fighting. It didn't feel padded out by people just trying to fill time. I'm increasingly bored by fights and chases where there is no jeopardy because you know they aren't going to kill the main star of the film or show - I don't mind them existing but they can't last long and have to have an interesting element to them.

Anyway, I mention this because

(a) per the previous post, Tom Clancy was a right wing douche, but still produced entertaining trash

(b) the series was made from 2018 to 2023, and season 3 made in 2022. Tom Clancy died in 2014 but is still, somehow, credited as an executive producer. I know executive producers sometimes don't do much, but this is still pretty impressively uninvolved to get a credit

It was decent enough. Perfectly watchable crime thriller thing. I honestly don't remember much politics.

I just started Reacher on the advice of my housemate. It’s actually rather enjoyable. The guy playing him is a beast.

Living - old stodgy bureaucrat in 1950s London finds he has only months left to live. Good.

Lancaster a documentary about its development and use, some interesting interviews with crew and even German civilians, ending with how they felt to be shunned after the war for doing what was asked of them and how bitter many felt towards Churchill who denounced em shortly after the war.
