Ooh I dunno then. I'm going to have to confess to not having seen much Monty Python or finding what I have seen particularly funny. Life if Brian is brilliant though.

Graham Chapman did the funniest stuff. Terry Gilliam was the most inventive.
Most Monty Python stuff was stuff that seemed funny to a 15 year old in the 80s. I haven't watched much since, but my guess is that a lot of it has aged badly - most comedy ages terribly - and what's left is probably funnier to teenagers than adults.
That said, Life of Brian was still very good when I last saw it maybe 10 years ago.
Cleese was good in Fawlty, but I'm not sure there's much in the 40+ years since that has been very remarkable.

When I was a teen I'd laugh hysterically at it. Now I might manage a chuckle once every 5 minutes or so.
But Chapman seemed the most naturally funny. Idle probably the least.

If it's literally rubbish, ironically you may have the paper bag.

It's always good to be suspicious of Guardian reviews. They're not always totally wrong but everything they review is done so through a lens of Woketiness.

It was very derivative stuff though, complete with the mandatory touch-points: the first two minutes established their credentials with the wife (a nurse) making a crack about clapping not being the same as actual money.

Speaking of film and TV gangster hardmen, why do the actors always speak in throaty whispers? Do no gangsters have singsong voices?

The Mire. Polish. Quite good. I am told that Detective Forst is very popular too. The Mire was much, much better than Forst.

Oppenheimer was very good, with Cillian Murphy convincing in the title role. There was lots of jumping back and forth in the timeline which can sometimes be annoying, but I thought they used it to great effect.

It wasn't any good with Patrick Swayze. It must be really bad now.

It wasn't any good with Patrick Swayze. It must be really bad now. Gyllenhall is not bad. Conor Macgregor however - he is shockingly awful. It goes from entertaining to “what the f**k is going on”. He is sooo so so so so bad!

I finally finished Road House. It took me a whole week to finish and it got worse. I don’t know how that’s possible. Gyllenhal must be in debt.
