I'd totally have you as a Brompton rider, Ming. I'm astonished.

Which is bollocks, my having to fire the au pair out of necessity only last week.

A Dyson?, "snort" that's for peasants we have a Kirby!
The only thing on that list we have is a BBQ!

Of course, the only sort of TV that the truly middle class claim to have is one that they never watch.

2/16 (Smart TV and Spiraliser) - I did say I was very working class.
In Oz having a barbecue just makes you the average person.

Have you run into anyone who has that new Weber electric BBQ? It's over £700 in UK but is very highly rated by Which?
Don't know anyone that has one yet but might be the answer to BBQing.

Yeah. That'll be the one. We're getting royally screwed as usual. I haven't checked the price since it came out in UK last year.

I have a gas grill. I prefer charcoal, but that takes time to get started. With a gas one, you turn it on, 5 minutes later it's hot, and you can grill a single steak and not feel like it's too much work.
But the gas grill doesn't give a really good char. I imagine an electric one would be even worse. I want flames burning my steak, particularly if it's a nice fatty cut like a rib-eye.

It's really just the burning fat that gives the flavour. The whole "proper charcoal" thing is a massive red herring. Each to their own, but I reckon you could do just as well with electric. No "fuel panic" either.

Charcoal gives better smokey flavour. And you can get direct flame on your steak which most gas grills don't.

I had an electric one for the kitchen years ago, it did fairly well, but say what you wish it takes fire to cook a great steak, gas grills are good, but I still prefer charcoal,,, you do have a point about the no fuel thing though, I am still considering running a N-gas line for the gas grill, only that kinda fixes the location, now I keep a spare 20lb tank

Charcoal gives better smokey flavour. I don't think that's true. My close friend is a chemical engineer and a charcoal devotee. Even he admits that there's nothing to it. It's just that he likes a fire.

You build a bonfire over a large flat stone and when it's reduced to glowing charcoal, scrape the ashes back and cook on the stone. The only drawback is you need lots of deadwood lying about.
