That's not really an answer, is it? It's quite clear that many senior doctors are wildly overpaid, underworked and indulged in running the NHS as a personal piggy bank and free facility for their private practices.

Possibly, but when the gov is willing to spend more on strike breaking than it would cost to give nurses the decent pay rise they need then you gotta conclude breaking the strike more important to them. And yeah they can find the mo ey to pay for expensive strike breakers, then there is enough money to settle with the nurses and avoid all this in the first place

And the Tories gave never been averse to shoveling money at high earners while keeping wages low for the rest. Even if that were true, that wouldn't make it right though, would it? It's an interesting contrast that many high earners have benefited from privatisation, many doctors are getting filthy rich in the public sector by getting the best of both worlds. I think they hate the idea of privatisation for that reason alone.

It's the Tories, they are not exactly known for doing the right thing. If they were they'd be giving the nurses a decent pay rise and avoiding all this.

They've been offered a better pay rise than most working people. You know, the ones that can't hold us hostage.
Are they prepared to accept a pay cut when inflation cokes down?

inflation is what, 10% and they are being offered a few beads and blankets while the tories are willing to spend millions on strike breaking. As you said its not a lack of money from the tories that's the issue as they will spend what ever it takes on high earning consultants in order to keep wages for the regular workers as low as possible. This strike is a result of tory ideology to keep wages low, running down services while spunking billions to prepare for selling off as much as possible to their mates in the City.

As an aside, I had a good experience with US healthcare last week. It was a bit spendy, but better than the equivalent would have been in the UK.

They're after 20% or so, aren't they? Looking for back-pay, colonial reparations and angel tax. Plus a war pension.

So because private sector employees are pathetically weak there is something wrong with nurses striking for better working conditions?
