All of that is well understood by most people. He's being a smug, tedious, dick. You genuinely think it’s well understood by most people? I am not so sure looking at how people talk about the events. I definitely have met more than enough people who seem to genuinely think “we” defeated the Nazis (instead of it being a global effort). And I am sure the same is true for Waterloo and the French (although admittedly people are probably less familiar). And in fairness he is referencing the Guardian article which states at Waterloo Napoleon was “defeated by the British). Asking for a Newspaper to actually describe things properly is fair comment. It’s akin to when the Yanks say “it was the USA that defeated the Nazis” or Laurence Fox crying at the depiction of an Indian man fighting on the side of the allied forces (yes I realise Fox is a cock so that is to be expected.) I don’t see why somebody should be insulted for wanting things reported properly. Well, maybe your associates and Guardian readers need to get a grip. It is reported properly. People are just a bit casual when they say "we".

I didn't spot that either, TBH, but it's neither here nor there. There was no call for the superior cleverdickery. Another boring anorak with no sense of context, but a burning desire to wave his ego around.

It's weird how the left hate Britain. ... and yet it was two on the hard right who trashed the UK economy two years ago. That's "love of country" for you right there. Then, of course, there's a certain Mr. Sunak (R.) who, when he was working for Goldman Sachs in the City in the noughties, cast his lot in with the Children’s Investment (TCI) Fund. That's right - the same TCI that launched a campaign against Dutch bank ABN AMRO back in 2007, which resulted in its sale to the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). The deal loaded RBS with crippling debt, a run on its funds and finally to a £45.5bn UK Government bailout - again, your government, my government, the people's government. Of course, when he subsequently became Chancellor, Sunak was still dealing with the fallout from the mess made by TCI and his mates still there at GS - not that there's a conflict of interest there. Oh no. Just a couple examples showing that when the Right accuses the Left of hating Britain, they're on pretty shaky ground themselves.

And in fairness he is referencing the Guardian article which states at Waterloo Napoleon was “defeated by the British I didn't spot that. So basically he's just correcting the Guardian which was coming out with bollocks? Yep.

People are just a bit casual when they say "we". Saying “where he was defeated by the British” is just inaccurate though isn’t it. And typically when people say something such as “xxxx should thank us <insert country here>, because we defeated yyyy” then they aren’t being particularly “casual” in their use. But it’s by the by. The Guardian reported incorrectly and he corrected them. Not sure why wanting factual reporting from a newspaper has you getting your knickers in a twist.

Another boring anorak with no sense of context, but a burning desire to wave his ego around. It very much is “here” for a reader to write a letter in response to a newspaper error. It’s not superior cleverdickery. It’s correcting incorrect information. But as you said you did not spot that he was correcting a newspaper error and just went off half cocked as usual.

The surprising thing is that anyone actually expected the guardian to be factually correct.

I am rather bemused that you took the time to draft an intelligent response to an imbecile.

Maybe for you, clearly for Guardianistas.

Well, it comes to something when the Fiardian feels this whimsical jizz is of more interest, and more substantial, that anything Starmer's got to say.

Also, it's a bit first-nations, innit? Lots of new Brits might feel somewhat excluded by that article.

Maybe "Britishcore" is a term that is specific to Mids's First Nation mentality. I offer a tiny defence of the Guardian that this is in their G2 section so it's not replacing any news or "news" that they'd normally publish.
That doesn't stop it being utterly horrific, of course. I honestly can't tell if it's satire. If it is, it's terrible satire that's not really satirising anyone or at best is just punching down on people who they think are white and stupid. If it's not satire and they think this represents real Britain, that's even more horrific. If its actually represents real Britain, that's worse yet.
I suspect it's the middle one.
