And yes, the landlord should sue him for assault.

See, what's worrying about this much-vaunted silver-tongued barrister is that he couldn't think on his feet. Any sensible wag would have said something to the crowd like "well, that went well" to at least own the situation. Must have been horrible for him, mind. Wait 'til PMQs though ....

Plus the, "I'll take no lectures on..." are the words of an utter, utter cunt. Even more so given the circumstances.

I see Johnny Mercer's resigned, calling the government a 'cesspit'.
Good man. Another one sees the light. Shame the Labour leader can't.

Imagine how much worse a Labour government would be? Thank god for the Tories!

Actually, I think he called politics a cesspit and refered to "government" and "whitehall" rather than "the government" and "westminster". Nuanced, you see? Either way, he's a sore loser and a bit of a self-regarding cry-baby. That might explain his less-than-stellar military career.

The former veterans’ minister Johnny Mercer has launched an extraordinary attack on Boris Johnson’s government, describing it as a “cesspit” and “the most distrustful, awful environment I’ve ever worked in”. link"This is the most distrustful, awful environment I’ve ever worked in, in government. Almost nobody tells the truth is what I’ve worked out over the last 36 hours. And, you know, I don’t think anyone really can get on their high horse about trust and ethics and all the rest of it in politics, because as far as I’m concerned, most of it is a bit of a cesspit."

actually I think Baloo's right on this. He didn't say "this Government" he referred to the whole of Whitehall as being a cesspit.
The main point is that he wants a law to stop any prosecution of any soldier active in Northern Ireland since the troubles began.
Boris has said this government can't go that far - it's too dangerous - it could mean a real case of murder by a soldier in Ireland would go unpunished.
He's now thrown his toys out the pram.

I think you should listen to what he says and try to spot how the definite article is used, or not used, and how Whitehall is used to describe where government is carried out, as distinct from Westminster, where the government is based.

Yeah, apologies, I took "This is the most distrustful, awful environment I’ve ever worked in, in government. Almost nobody tells the truth is what I’ve worked out over the last 36 hours.
And, you know, I don’t think anyone really can get on their high horse about trust and ethics and all the rest of it in politics, because as far as I’m concerned, most of it is a bit of a cesspit" as a bit of a damnation of his party, but maybe he was praising it in a roundabout way.

Elections on Thursday, in particular the Hartlepool by-election. A massively, hugely safe Labour seat. It's never not had a Labour MP. Of course, the Tories have no chance and anything less than 90% for Labour would be an utter disaster for them.

Labour's fucked. They're a disgrace, as much to blame as the Johnson gang for the country's covid death toll, the economic fiasco, and the sleaze which sees billions of pounds of taxpayers' money going into the pockets of pub landlords, porn barons, and their wives and girlfriends. That the Labour party can't capitalize on this shows they're not fit for office.

The 1980s have called and are asking for their headlines back.

1066. Normans. Every now and then someone comments below a Guardian article to the effect that the Normans took over in 1066 and today they're still responsible for Britain's lack of freedom and equality.
