though obviously as the victim this time is a bloke swift and severe justice will be done, doubt anyone will be asking what he was wearing.

"charged with non-fatal strangulation".
Is that a specific offence?

Oh, FFS ....
"Section 70 Domestic Abuse Act 2021 (DA Act 2021) introduced the offences of non-fatal strangulation and non-fatal suffocation. Schedule 2, paragraph 4 DA Act 2021 introduced the offence of racially or religiously aggravated non-fatal strangulation or non-fatal suffocation. The offences came into force on 7 June 2022 and are not retrospective."

Think the strangulation thing came in after a number of blokes filmed themselves choking birds into unconciousnes then posting em on tick-tock there was a barmaid getting choked out that went viral as I remember, but it was far from the only one

Interesting. I had wondered if it was linked to the worrying number of men using “rough sex” as a defence when facing prosecution for killing their intimate partners. Seems like a different thing: domesticabusecommissioner.uk/blogs/why-we-need-a-new-non-fatal-strangulation-offence-explains-a-forensic-physician/“ Sometimes the intent of the attacker will be to kill the victim but many times it will be a way to control her. And as a method of control, it is powerful. Studies show that less than half of victims have visible injuries as a result of NFS. Lack of awareness by professionals regarding prevalence of NFS, signs and symptoms and absence of injuries has meant that perpetrators have been able to use it, often repeatedly, without challenge or punishment. Hopefully the commencement of the new offence will change that. A three-year study on NFS done at Saint Mary’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) in Manchester [1]found that: Of the 2196 adults attending for a forensic medical examination following a report of rape or sexual assault: 1 in 11 said that they had also been strangled as part of the assault. This rose to 1 in 5 where the alleged perpetrator was a partner or ex-partner 40% were strangled in their own home 27% said their attacker had strangled them before this incident 15.7% were strangled until they had lost consciousness 36.6% thought that they were going to die Less than half had any external injuries to their neck or head as a result of the strangulation. This injury rate remained the same whether or not the victim was passive or put up a struggle, underlying that the locus of power and control would seem to rest with the perpetrator Hopefully this will now change with the new legislation.”

What - more violent police? I am shocked! Imagine being a Good Samaritan - reporting a crime to the police, and they thank you by beating you up. “He mistook Rasike Attanayake, who had called 999, for the suspect, arrested him and punched him in the head.” I hope the police officer is sent to jail. Gen pop. And the victim sues him and wins.

The police aren't violent enough. They should be much more violent. Not to people like me, obvs.
