Aperol spritz is the devil's piss. Somebody offered me aperol and prosecco the other day. Sweet Jesus. Aperol spritz is Aperol and prosecco. I had Campari and fresh orange juice last night. I forgot how insanely delicious that is.

Is it? I thought it was Aperol and soda water or something. Either way it's vile. Negroni, now that's a proper grown up drink.

Negronis are late night drinks at best. Like an old fashioned, they're a one-and-done kind of drink, not something you can have a couple of before dinner and still expect to enjoy the wine.

I like statues. They are cool. Doesn't mean I worship the person the statue is of, doesn't mean I agree with all of his or hers views....just thought provoking works of art from our history.

I was just watching a compilation of videos taken of the far right marches in London.
I dunno if it is just in Oz but the media inconsistency was rather glaring. They downplayed the far right marches as generally peaceful with a couple of trouble makers but there was a hell of a lot of racism and violence in show.
Interesting...

Yeah it was interesting because that's EXACTLY what people were saying about the BLM protestors the week before, peaceful protests, yet 30 odd Police were injured, police horses injured, some police were chased up the street and several assaulted, monuments defaced and violence ensued, and bizarrely there were no right wing groups there that weekend, so who I wonder were the culprits?
Inconsistent doesn't even cover it!

Inconsistent doesn't even cover it! Nah that’s not what the media were saying. They were heavily focused on the damage, rioters etc associated with the BLM protests but largely ignored it for the far right protests. Inconsistent treatment but entirely consistent with the media narrative. That said they touched upon the racism when referencing the Nazi salutes that some have swept aside as “football chants”. Thank goodness for FB pages sharing the truth. Very glad I left.

No I tried to leave Facebook and with family and friends spread across the globe and a number of my social and other groups organised via Facebook it was too difficult. I reckon if I had never left my hometown I probably would never have started using it.

I enjoy the randomness of running into an old friend from school and knowing nothing, then you have a great chat.

Yeah. When you have a diaspora of friends and acquaintances around the planet, Facebook is very useful. Particularly if they're all those sorts of half-friends that you wouldn't call for an hour from thousands of miles away, but you might want to catch up with over a beer if you happen to be in the same place. Then you have a baseline of knowledge to start from.

I think the argument against taking down statues because you are erasing history is pretty weak tbh.
It seems to assume that we can only learn about history by looking at statues. They are only presenting a glorified image of a person.
If we want statues that teach history then instead of Robert E Lee on a horse it should be Robert E Lee signing the documents of surrender at Appomattox. Fair enough?

Add a plaque to add some historical perspective.
"Robert E Lee, who led a traitorous revolt that killed over 700,000 of his fellow countrymen to defend the ownership of other human beings."

Yeah some right wing nutter was trying to argue the other day 'well when are going to demand they bulldoze Auschwitz' I replied 'they kept Auschwitz as evidence and a memorial those killed there, not to glorify the nazis or celebrate them, and that's the exact opposite to keeping statues of slaves and tractors '
