Gerald, Lord Sandwich wasn't a bread-based snack.
What point are you trying to make?

oh yes they do, depends on the intent of then as to if they are really that good, if its to stop you wandering alone in the forest then great, but if its about controling and exploiting you to make certain men rich and powerful, not so much

We know they nailed someone to a tree around the time he was said to be about, but that single piece of evidence does not mean he existed in anyway similar to the myths spun centuries later about him.

Organized religion is indeed a farce and enslaves you more than it frees you (as it claims to do), but to each his own.
As long as you don't force your brand of morality/salvation on other people you can worship goat entrails for all I care.

I'm not a church-goer, but there's plenty for whom it's the cornerstone of their lives. Very much horses for courses. I think we've come to a reasonably happy medium in UK: the established Church is a bit of a laughing stock but at least we've got our frame of reference.

One often leads to the other.

"Faith is about self-delusion." FFS, what a bloody sad outlook.

why, if you believe for instance the world in only 6000 years old, yes you're deluded, or that women are forever sinful cos a talking snake told the first one of em to eat an apple, then yes you're delusional, I could go on, but you get the point.

Don't disagree with that. Of course, there's always another.

no its not its faith, sure its faith in religion, but you can be a member of no organised church and still believe those things of the bible, many do. What you believe in and what a certain organised religion teaches are not always the same, often they are, but its not exclusive. lots of people never go to church, have never been to church but still believe stuff from the bible. I'm shocked you don't see the difference between the institutions I first mentioned that are all about control of their flock and people just reading nonsense like Adam and Eve and thinking 'hey, talking snakes, that makes sense I totally believe that'

It's not a matter of faith at all.
Atheism is the lack of belief. The lack of faith.
I mean, yes, hypothetically the existence of a deity is unknowable but possible. It's also spectacularly improbable, and there's no conceivable reason for a rational person in the modern era to believe.

Faith and belief are not the same thing.
And one of the negative results of religion is the idea everyone now has of "God". Whether a believer or not, the common conception of God is some personal deity that once upon a time created everything and now looks on from above. Basically a superhuman, which is a very simplistic and of course anthropomorphic idea. But if you throw the entire concept out you're just a materialist, which is just as narrow-minded imo.
