wasn't even a contest. "Artificial intelligence can master difficult combat skills at warp speed.""From the outside, the simulated aerial dogfight the Pentagon held two weeks ago looked like a standard demonstration of close-up air-to-air combat as two F-16 fighter jets barreled through the sky, twisting and diving as they sought an advantage over the other. Time and time again the jets would “merge,” with one or both pilots having just split seconds to pull off an accurate shot. After one of the jets found itself riddled with cannon shells five times in these confrontations, the simulation ended." www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/military-ai-vanquishes-human-fighter-pilot-f-16-simulation-how-ncna1238773

Hmmmm .... in a conventional conflict, the Chinese would struggle without air superiority, I reckon. The Indians have a large, professional standing army and they can be sure of popular support.

Every time they've gone up against China they've lost, sometimes heavily. Most recently the Chinese pushed easily into Indian controlled areas and India have been unable to dislodge them, And China is now building a road from China to Pakistan through it and they are powerless to stop them it seems.

That was just fisticuffs though, surely? Stones and lumps of 4 x 2. Not really the same thing.

There's also the question of cost/benefit. It's all brinkmanship. Is it really worth a full-on war over some empty useless mountain path? What is the strategic value in a road in such a place?

Oh yeah its all cock waving bollox, but China building a road to Pakistan is of huge concerns to India apparently, I think their biggest fear is Chinese support of any attempt by Pakistan to take "back" Jammu & Kashmir.

I agree it's of concern to India, but again I think that's more about prestige. I don't believe that the Chinese would support Pakistan militarily. India would blend Pakistan in a conventional fight and the Pakistanis are despised by Yanks who feel that they severely mauled the hand that fed them over Afghanistan.
China aren't really in a position to take on the Americans, so the shadow-boxing continues. Business as usual.

Something like that. China's an interesting case: too big to run really. From what I've read, "the Chinese" seem more intent on maintaining stability at all costs. If that means encouraging everyone else to fight amongst themselves, the so be it.

The Chinese already have a road to the Pakistan border.

Artificial intelligence may already be ‘slightly conscious’, AI scientists warn"Advanced forms of artificial intelligence may already be displaying glimmers of consciousness, according to leading computer scientists." "MIT researcher Tamay Besiroglu joined OpenAI cofounder Ilya Sutskever in warning that some machine learning AI may have achieved a limited form of sentience, sparking debate among neuroscientists and AI researchers." www.independent.co.uk/tech/artificial-intelligence-conciousness-ai-deepmind-b2017393.html

posted it in outer space thread but this thread is more appropriate. AI worship could result in future new religions"We are about to witness the birth of a new kind of religion. In the next few years, or perhaps even months, we will see the emergence of sects devoted to the worship of artificial intelligence (AI)." "The latest generation of AI-powered chatbots, trained on large language models, have left their early users awestruck – and sometimes terrified – by their power. These are the same sublime emotions that lie at the heart of our experience of the divine." "On top of this, generative AI may ask to be worshipped or may actively solicit followers. We have already seen such cases, like when the chatbot used by the search engine Bing tried to convince a user to fall in love with it." earthsky.org/human-world/ai-worship-new-religions/Matthew 7:15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves."Exodus 20:3 “You shall have no other gods before me."interesting. teens and some adults are already addicted to smart phones and in a way worship them and would be lost without them.

Soft minded fools have been making up religions to follow for, probably, our entire evolved history, so wouldn't surprise me one bit that some idiots of the future will act as humans always have and have AI as their God head.

Humans have been worshipping bits of rock since the beginning of time, so I don't see the point of even thinking about it.

It's an interesting concept though; humans observably creating a god. In the sense that the rational can point at a microchip and say 'nah, came from that mate'.
