Sad for his family but I think anyone persuaded to commit suicide after a conversation with a chatbot, already had some serious mental health issues.

Interestingly (to me at least), Eliza was the name of the original interactive language program, from the 1960's. Written in just a few kilobytes of code, many users were convinced it was a real person they were conversing with.

To be fair, an artificial interlocutor would have seemed like magic to many, back then.
