The Conservatives have held the safe suburban London seat of Old Bexley and Sidcup in by-election.

Their candidate, local councillor Louie French, won more than half the votes, with Labour's Daniel Francis second.

Mr French paid tribute to the area's former MP, James Brokenshire, whose death from cancer in October triggered the contest.

The Tories' majority has been cut from nearly 19,000 to 4,478, with a 10% swing to Labour.

WTF do the Conservatives have to do to loose??

The Labour leadership really is a lost cause.

The British are a lost cause. No matter how much the tories slash and burn and the social consequences are felt Britons seem fine with it.

(And I do agree it is shocking that Labour are providing such an ineffective opposition - irrespective of how people vote most people can see why a strong opposition is needed.)

And for those who wish to deny the Tories are racist and that this bill is not designed to bring in a race based two tier system of citizenship and identity:

(I also do not for one second believe this is only a risk to those who are active terror threats to the UK.)

Anyone who still supports the Tories is either stupid or touched in the head. They are unquestionably the worst UK government in history, openly corrupt, don't give a sh*t for the British people, and are happy to be led by a man who abuses the traditional British system of government which, without a written constitution, depends on the decency of its members to ensure probity.

Nothing's forever. Maybe it is time for new blood. Plenty of strength on depth in the Tory cabinet. Diverse too. I expect we'll give Liz Truss a go. We have no problem with women, you see.
