Let's ask Jezza. He's at a bit of a loose end just now.

Seen 7.4 and 7.8 reported. Either way it’s f**k**g massive. Particularly for the Med region rather than, say, Japan or California which have more wooden and flexible houses.

The Egyptians are saying that's not true.

I doubt if they'd know, being stoned all the time. That's an odd statement though - why would they announce they hadn't felt it?
It's a bit like when our neighbours ran over and killed our cat - they all denied it, simultaneously, with deadpan looks on their faces.

Initial Reports suggest the earthquake has caused at least £100 million worth of improvements to the area, with the added bonus that sex assaults on female tourists are down.....

Not only are the buildings cement and brick and concrete, much worse in earthquakes than wood or steel ones. But they appear to be mostly 3-10 stories tall which -if I remember right - is much worse in quakes because they can’t flex at the same frequencies as taller buildings. And they also appear to have been rapidly built by the state construction company which is not going to have been red letter build quality.
1000+ dead so far, but that number will probably go up a long way.

I could have workshopped* that a bit better. Maybe alluded to Egyptian fishermen.

Depends. By "Brits" do you mean people who were born and have lived here most of their lives but who happen to have been visiting an obscure part of Turkeyee-hah or people who have lived in Turkiye their whole lives but whose cousin is booked on an inflatable to Kent therefore they and their entire village now has the right to come and live here, according to BBC legislation?
