Yes, presumably most women have just swallowed the impact on their professional life, because that was the only way to have children. But when it’s only the woman who can be paid for childcare then all women suffer, because employers are wary of taking on someone who might vanish for two years. So we miss out on jobs even when we have no wish for kids whatsoever.

I know several lady Drs and nurses who had kids and are still at the top of their profession. And really these days how many of us just do one job or even one profession, I'm on my third and doubt this is that unusual.
